Any recommendations for a Canberra mechanic familiar with an 85 Mitsubishi Sigma?
Recently located from Queensland to inner-south Canberra and have already taken it to one mechanic at Fyshwick who could only partially fix the problem.
[ED - Might it be cheaper to get another car?]
Premier Automotive in mitchell services my magna – 89 model. rob is worth his weight in gold. (02) 6242 8450

Speaking of old bombs – are there any wreckers left in Canberra.
Where can I get rid of a car that is driveable (but not long distances)?
About a month of rego left, so no great rush.

the mechanic and owner. my magna is called many things… none of which are polite.
International Car Repairs in Dundas Court are pretty good.
Aside from it being a mitsubishi…whats the problem

Ring Ezyscrap or one of those many places. They’ll even come and pick it up and leave you with a small sum of cash.
Ha ha ha, Sigma.
Awesome. My first car when I went Uni was a beatup old second hand ’85 model Stigma. Amongst it’s great attributes was the lack of a heater which made a trip to the snow one year with some mates an adventure in masochism.
I’ve always wanted to push a car off the top floor of a multi-level carpark and see what it looked like when it hit the ground….
Is it insured?
That is one damn fine automobile you have there son. Is it equipped with the much vaunted Astron 2000 powerplant?
Like Joshua, my first rig was an ’82 Sigma (2.6L auto). The old wog who sold it to me said: “it already run for 300k, so it run for another 300k no problem”. I couldn’t fault his logic, so I hastily forked over the $900 bones I had saved by doing the Isaacs milk-run. The thing pumped out so much smoke that Cheech & Chong actually wanted to use it for one of their movies, and the roof lining would sag to eye-height during the summer months. Needless to say it $hat me to tears, so I was ecstatic when an Asian family took it off my hands for double what I paid for it. I still feel a bit guily wondering if they made it out of the suburb.
Have you considered a career as a used car salesman?
I always go to Darren at A&D Automotive. When I had a Magna he was the only one who appeared to be able to fix it.

I won’t ever buy a Mitsubishi again.

No, I think he’s hoping to knock off Clare Werbeloff as Australia’s latest internet export.

agreed, My lst two cars have been mitsubishis, and old lancer and a L200 ute, they do a great job at a reasonable price.
The best way to fix a stigma, ooops Sigma is a match in the fuel tank followed by a quick run. Will save you a heap of money in the long run.
