More heat stuff: Falling Branches!

By johnboy - 17 January 2014 10

The ACT Government is warning the community to be aware of falling branches from large trees in the ACT.

During periods of extended heat conditions large trees, particularly Eucalypts, have been known to drop large branches as a method of surviving the conditions.

The community should take care when seeking shade or parking vehicles under large trees and be aware that large branches could possibly drop and cause injury or damage.

For more information or to report large branches being dropped from trees contact Canberra Connect on 13 22 81.

Falling trees, thanks for the warning. But what about drop bears, why don’t they ever tell us about those?

Well, that is a helpful piece of advice – particularly helpful when the branch-dropping tree looms over a home, but the tree can’t be touched because it meets arbitrary size criteria and is therefore sacred.

Had some pommy visitors over the break – took them out into the bush, and we found a series of wombat holes.
“What are these?”, they asked.
“Well, you’ve surely heard of drop-bears, these are a related species called leap-bears”…..

If you need a tree pulled out your first job is to call the arborist for a consult. Your DA needs to have an arborist report on it anyway and they can help frame the application properly.

Perhaps this would be a good time to give the trees an extra drink?

(Unless you would rather branches to be dropping than assisting in hot weather.)
