Andrew Barr has announced that the ACT Government is going to pay for a thousand extra students to attend CIT next year, up from 300 current scholarship places to 1,300.

An extra 1,000 Canberrans will have access to scholarships to help them study at the Canberra Institute of Technology (CIT) from 1 July this year, Minister for Education and Training Andrew Barr announced today. This is more than 3 times the number of scholarships available in previous years.

The scholarship will target the following five spectacularly vague “priority areas”:

    • government services
    • construction and property services
    • community services and health
    • innovation and business skills and
    • services.

I like the idea, but would be interested in knowing the specific eligibility requirements. A quick look on the CIT website didn’t make these any clearer. Priority areas seem vague enough that I can’t think of anything that wouldn’t potentially be covered – deliberate?
