More skilled migrants

Chief Minister presumptive Stanhope has reclaimed the keys to the Chief Minister’s website.

[This is to the relief of all Canberra media, as the Government is now telling us about stuff that’s happening which is much easier than having to find it ourselves. The Liberals remain silent and useless, at least they’re consistent.]

Our returned Brave Leader has announced a one-off allocation of another 500 skilled migrant places.

“Mr Stanhope said the additional 500 skilled migrant places will allow the ACT Government to immediately nominate potential skilled workers with occupations outside the official ‘skills in shortage lists’ used to qualify and sponsor skilled immigrants.

“I congratulate Senator Evans and the Commonwealth Government for their new, cooperative, approach to skilled migration”, Mr Stanhope said. “These changes are good news for Canberra business and indeed for the broader community in seeking to attract more skilled workers in areas such as health care.”

If you were wondering where extra promised health care workers were coming from this is it.

The Liberals could be informing the public what they think on any number of issues.

Why they choose not too when every other opposition in Australia makes a point of it remains a mystery I personally ascribe to the weird control freakery of team Z.

Why would the Liberals be making any announcements of government run programs when they’re not in government and would have no access to the information? The only thing that is useless and unnecessary was that comment.

Since Jon Stanhope isn’t even the Chief Minister it is passed by resolution of the assembly, which I believe wil be on Wednesday, he shouldn’t be issuing statements as Chief Minister. But then he’s been misusing the media releases for years, so hardly surprising.

And surely health workers should be on the official skills shortage list – seeing as how the whole country is short of health workers….

Hmmmmhm. Whatever happened to the skilled migrants the ACT Government brought over from the UK to do Child Protection in 2004 and then again in May this year. I heard an idle rumour that they work their required period and then bugger off to the major metropolitan centres.

Anyone know if any of them stayed?
