ACT Policing Criminal Investigation members arrested a 22-year-old man and 19-year-old woman on Saturday morning (July 10) following the aggravated robbery of a taxi driver last month (June 17).

Around 2.30am on June 17, the driver picked up six passengers from an address in Kingston and conveyed them to George Street, in Oaks Estate.

After the passengers got out of the vehicle, the 26-year-old driver from Queanbeyan was threatened then assaulted. The victim was robbed of a sum of cash before the offenders fled the scene.

On Saturday morning police executed a search warrant at a house in Narrabundah where the man and woman were arrested in relation to the alleged offence and conveyed to the ACT Watch House.

The man and woman have been charged and will appear in the ACT Magistrates Court this morning.

They have the right to request prepayment, and some do it routinely.

It won’t take long until taxi’s are all prepaid/credit card only.

When I worked night shift about 8 years ago I jumped in a taxi at 4am to get a ride home and the driver apologised for the fact that he had to get $20 dollars off me up front before he would go anywhere. I know that he did not have the right to do so but he said he had had too many runners not paying the fare and the owner of the cab has had enough. I happily gave him the $20 dollars. The guy was huge and had a mark on his shirt where the steering wheel rubbed on his stomach, I couldn’t imagine him running after anyone.

If the taxi driver was from Queanbeyan, presumably, he was driving a Queanbeyan cab?
Are they allowed to pick up in Kingston for an ACT destination?

But there’s two grog shops in Oaks Estate? Although they don’t open late, admittedly.

The ACT Taxi industry is built on delivery of drugs and grog to Oaks Estate.

FACT: police never search a taxi – ask any drug dealer who flys with their gold club pass.

Having a taxi wait until a person runs into an appartment, and comes back out again in 5 minutes is what they are paid to do.

Funny how the Taxi industry winge about 1 of their own but say nothing about delivery of 10 cases of beer and collect their payment from a disability card holder.

It won’t be much longer after than all cars are self-driving and we don’t need taxis as we know them.

you mean we won’t need taxi *drivers*?

I’m sure there will always be a demand for taxis, unless cars, rego, insurance and fuel become free.

It won’t be much longer after than all cars are self-driving and we don’t need taxis as we know them.

It won’t take long until taxi’s are all prepaid/credit card only.

What do these offenders need money for? They probably steal everything they want anyway. Such bottom feeders.
