Murderer on the run. Avoid staring bald men with neck tats

By johnboy - 26 February 2013 34

Adam Bowhay

Police have launched a search for a prisoner who absconded while on a work release program in the state’s south this afternoon.

Cooma Correctional Centre inmate Adam Bowhay, 34, was with two other inmates at Snowy Oval in Cooma as part of a local work release program early this afternoon (Tuesday 26 February).

He fled the area around 1.15pm and has not been seen since.

Bowhay is serving a sentence of 23 years for a murder in 1997.

Police from Monaro Local Area Command have mounted a major search of the area involving local resources.

The public is being urged not to approach the man but to instead contact Triple Zero immediately.

Bowhay is described as being of Caucasian appearance, approximately 184cm tall, medium/large build, bald head and clean shaven. He has tattoos around his neck, upper arm and legs.

He was last seen wearing work gear which consists of a fluorescent yellow shirt and blue and green ‘King Gee’ brand long pants.

THIS IS AN (UNOFFICIAL) PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT

Lock your doors and windows people.
If this guys is out and about you don’t want him in your home.
He is rather large and at large. (pun unintended)

And how is that his prison uniform whilst on work release is that of any other tradesman? What about fluoro orange jumpsuits or something equally distinctive, so that he can’t just walk off and blend into the crowd?

What about GPS trackers around the ankles in case they do a runner?

What about a bit of common sense and some basic precautions to prevent escape. Am I missing something here?

Human rights something something lets make them poor prisoners feel like the rest of society something something those poor souls something something

I’m all for making them earn their keep but fluoro shirt and green king gee’s? That won’t blend in around Cooma. What’s wrong with the standard striped pyjamas?

Striped clothing went out a long long time ago, NSW prisoners wear green, just like that in his photo above.

Agree with those espousing the use of technology to monitor these blokes. Surely Corrections can get a good price on a job lot.

Look what we have here:

“[Adam Bowhay] then took part in a lengthy recorded interview at Wangaratta (NSW) with Detective Campbell. This time he immediately confessed that he had been the one who killed Steven, staying he had stabbed him, strangled him, and jumped all over him. He said his reason for doing it was because Steven “pissed him off and kept on touching Rachel”:
“Q: And what happened then?
A: I looked, told him, I said ‘What would you do if I punched you in the mouth‘? He said ‘Id probably ask ‘Why‘? So I smacked him a good one in the head. I told him I was going to keep going, and he pulled out a knife. So I pulled out a knife as well. I know how to use a knife, he didn’t.
Q: What happened then?
A: Well, I stabbed him, strangled him to make sure he was dead, jumped all over him, dragged him down. I took his wallet first and his hotel keys, dragged him down to the side of the river, just left him there. Went back to his hotel, took what I wanted out of his room and left Casino.
Q: Were you alone at the time you say you killed Mr Jarvis?
A: Yeah. Me girlfriend was there but she wasn’t close enough to know really what was going on.”

Which I found at: http://murdersheblogs.blogspot.com.au/2010/04/i-didnt-know-if-id-killed-him-good.html

Great work to whoever’s responsible. Useless fecking bureaucrats.

I drove through Wangaratta last week. I thought it was in Victoria, not NSW.
I think maybe the detective meant Wallangarra?

Yeah it’s pretty dumb. Why would someone who’s done two thirds of a sentence do a runner? Once he’s caught he’ll be let off early for showing initiative.

Fixed.

The prison guards on the oval must be pissed that he didn’t return with their smokes and change from the fifty dollar note they gave him.

Errmmm…no guards? For a convicted murderer with seven years to go? Seriously? I wouldn’t be surprised at all, but do you have sources for this?

He was doing a pre-release program. This means that a few weeks later he would have been out and in the community anyway.

This has been happening in Cooma for over 15 years IIIC.

Before that it was a sex-offenders only prison. The diddlers were great, very quiet and unlikely to bash and rob.
