I know! Let’s name it… Canberra Airport? There’s only one, it’s not like you’re going to confuse it with another (the one behind Hume possible?). Haven’t Change.org got anything better to campaign on?

Go easy on the change-org petitioner! She’s 10 years old apparently.
As to renaming the airport – as much as Dr Warren has an involvement with aviation, he has had no (that I can see) involvement with Canberra and so not necessarily a good choice. Sydney Airport is known as Kingsford Smith Airport or a combination of these two names. Thus any “name” given to Canberra will still cause the airport to be known as Canberra Airport.

Change.org is the provider of the hosting service where people can put petitions, ‘they’ don’t campaign.
Canberra Airport will always be known as Canberra Airport and retain the CBR code just as Sydney has despite the Kingsford Smith name. And naming it in honour of someone whose innovation has done so much to improve air safety is a nice idea, certainly a better one than the addition of ‘International’ to the name.
I don’t see a problem and good on the kid for putting in the effort.
The Best example of a bad design. It is literally the most annoying space to move through. Lucky there is not a significant amount of traffic moving through it.
I’d call it CockupVille, or Confusionburg or something similar.
For example, if you’re going away for a couple of days and want to park your car there overnight, you need to drive in through the lane marked “arrivals”, even though you’re departing because that’s how you get to the long stay parking. This seems deliberately perverse, akin to the old MS-Windows sequence of keypresses that required you to press the “Start” button in order to shut the computer down.
Overall, the parking arrangements and traffic flow, and almost total absence of meaningful signage make the place far more difficult to navigate than it should be.
Of course, it could just be the OldTimers disease kicking in….:-)

Sometimes the most obvious answer is the best one.
Beats doing what they do with the football stadiums etc. They’re playing at Endevour Field this week, sorry Ronson Park, I mean Caltex Field, oh f#%# it’s at Shark Park…ohhh forget it…

For things like stadiums where they sell naming rights to a sponsor, yes this can happen, but since we’re not offering to sell naming rights to the airport, I can’t see how this is relevant.
I personally don’t see a problem with this, and as such I’ve added my name to the petition. If you really feel that strongly about keeping the airport’s name the same, why not put up a counter petition, something along the lines of “save Canberra Airports name”?
Agree, good on Eva for showing initiative, however I do have to say that being reminded of black box voice recorders when I’m about to fly is not high on my list of things to think about.

Then again, being reminded of the safety technology which has gone into aviation since the wright brothers became the first people to get airborne without killing themselves is probably not a bad thing either.
So much hate for Canberra Airport… again. Seems every thread on hear about the Airport or anything related to it brings out a truck load of sniping. What gives?
Perhaps you’d rather it returned to the era where it was a rusty, asbestos shed in a f-king paddock?

I agree – Canberra Airport.

Full marks to the 10yr old though.
Not one “please” in that petition. I tell ya, kids these days just expect everything their way.
Gateway to Queanbeyan Airport.
How about naming it after Nancy Bird-Walton, if it really needs another name? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nancy_Bird_Walton
Having an airport called Bird airport would be good too, apart from her many achievements.

CanbeRra AirPort ==> CRAP?
He wouldn’t call it Brindabella International Airport, would he?
call it Tralee/South Sydney dirt runway

How about the Leslie Neilsen memorial airport? (Neilsen starred in Flying High).

Can’t we name it after Justin Bieber, Gough Whitlam or Bryce Courtney?
I figured John Stanhope would be a given.
There’s a precedent with other airports like JFK and Ronald Reagan named after famous world leaders. Surely John deserves one as well.
I’d have no problem with CBR being named after David Warren. He is an Australian who has made a difference to aviation the world over.
10 years old or otherwise, Eve Cogan makes a good point in her petition…
the airport of canberra – let’s add our own twist

Doesnt Stephen Byron want to name it “Canberra High Speed Rail Link Terminal 1″?

It should be re-named “Stanhope Interrelational Airport” as a tribute to the man and his reason for sharing his public art with us.

Yeah, but the art on display at the airport is actually interesting.
