tuggeranong plan

Simon Corbell has announced a master plan for Tuggeranong:

Mr Corbell release the finalised Tuggeranong town centre master plan that looks to make Tuggeranong a unique place to live and work, to boost residential development and enhance the gateway to the mountains and the Murrumbidgee River.

“This plan sets out a direction that will create the opportunity for a more sustainable urban lifestyle close to some of Canberra’s best natural landscapes,” Mr Corbell said.

“The plan works with the town centre’s street grid to establish views to the mountains, residential redevelopment that can take advantage of good solar orientation, walking and cycling links to Lake Tuggeranong; and sunny, sheltered spaces for outdoor dining and relaxation.”

Mr Corbell said a mix of on-street and basement car parking would be increased to ensure convenient parking for centre users for both quick trips and all day parking needs.

“The plan outlines short-term parking on streets and long-term parking on the perimeter of the town centre.

“Up to 7,800 new dwellings in the town centre are recommended to support the viability of existing retail and other services and facilities in the centre and the plan recommends better connections to the valley’s unique landscape by improving pedestrian access to the lake, and protecting views to surrounding hills and mountains.

Remember the Gungahlin Dr extension took longer to build than the harbour bridge. This will take at least 60 years and 10 times the price to complete under Labour

So we have to wait another 30 years before we can expect them to remove that stupid clock … the one that has not worked for at least 5 years already. Unless they are waiting for Marty McFly to come and do a Back To The Future number on it?

On the upside, I love what they have done with Oxley Hill in the foreground. Looks like it is higher than Mount Taylor. Take that Kambah!

Why is everyone blue?

Because they live in Tuggeranong. It just makes people feel that way. 🙂

Probably because their huge packets of Winfield Blue (or Holiday) have been mysteriously taken away. I am always amazed by how many people smoke in Tuggeranong.

And while we’re looking at the picture, has the man second from the left had a wee accident?

Why is everyone blue?

Wow, that cover illustration is pure “serving suggestion” only. Starting with the crystal blue lake, the elevated grass in the foreground (unless its the perspective from a rooftop garden of a 20 storey tower in Oxley) and the eradication (as if) of McDonalds and KFC by the lake. Bunnings and Supercheap Auto also appear to have been napalmed off the map… over my dead body!!!

…only got to wait 30 years…..wow, i’ll be dead

i can hear the chanting in the labor offices now “if we keep acting like the government we will be voted back in”

it is rather hopeful but if they do it well it might just work

It’s about time though, you’ve gotta admit, Tuggeranong is currently a supremely crappy place to go.

Why didn’t they think of this earlier? Build a few blocks of flats – that’ll make it wonderful!

so the rapid weekday bus service will go the same route as the weekend route? or will it simply pass over soward way and then travel on the regular intertown route?
theres a reason nobody catches the bus from tuggeranong on weekends

It’s about time though, you’ve gotta admit, Tuggeranong is currently a supremely crappy place to go.
