Over 1200 ACT residents have now signed up for the free MyWaste app to help keep track of household waste and recycling information.

“We are getting a steady increase in users of the MyWaste app with an average of over 30 downloads each week,” said Trevar Chilvar, Education Officer, ACT NOWaste.

“The app improves the way the ACT’s waste management services can be communicated, providing users with up-to-date information at their fingertips and with push notifications where the user requests them.

“Residents can still get a copy of the fridge magnet kerbside collection calendar on request, and more detailed information is available on the TAMS website.

“The distribution of the calendars has been problematic over the last few years, with many houses missed and a large number of calendars making their way directly into the recycling bin.

“Residents who still want a copy of the calendar can request it via email, by calling Canberra Connect, or by picking one up from a Libraries ACT branch, ACT Government Shopfront or via special displays from 20 local shops.

“This kind of distribution not only saves ACT ratepayers from the expense of ineffective distribution methods used in the past, but also allows them to opt in to the communication method that works best for them.”

The MyWaste app allows ACT residents to set their suburb and have the app notify them the night before their bins are due to be collected. It also provides information on:

  • what can be recycled in the ACT’s yellow lidded bins
  • who to call if their collection is missed, and
  • where to find out more information about local recycling and waste management services.

“If your collection day is affected by public holidays like Christmas or Good Friday, the app will even let you know when your bins will be collected, without you having to ask,” Mr Chilvar said.

The MyWaste app is available for free from www.my-waste.mobi or via iTunes and Google Play (just search ‘My Waste’). If residents want a calendar they can download it from www.tams.act.gov.au, email No_Waste@act.gov.au or call Canberra Connect on 13 22 81.
