Yesterday afternoon the crane was hard at work installing the new bridge being between the Belconnen Mall and the Churches Centre (apologies for the image quality I took the pic with my mobile). Soon DIAC staff won’t have to mix with the plebs on ground level again to get their lunch at the food court Maccas.

I believe the acronym is DIC not DIAC, which is kind of apt really.

With comments like that, one must assume that you work for DIC.

If s/he is the head of a Department of Immigration and Citizenship Group, then that would be: DIChead.

As an acronym, whoever thought that up needs to go work with the Southern Highlands Institute of Technology for a while.

Nothing to do with the thread other than that is damn funny. Reminded me when I was at uni a few of us planned a Melbourne Cup trip to be called the Canberra Univeristy Nags Tour Syndicate…@ the cup

What does “DIAC” stand for?

new bridge looks like the “red bridge”… does that mean this is the “white bridge”?

Is that really an improvement over the old bridge? =(

The only thing that needed fixing on the old one was some new perspex for the roof/windows to replace the fibreglass stuff which was getting old and dirty.

When the support poles for the old bridge were is right where the Cohen Street extension will be.

The old one was as ugly as the old interchange and as the current Westfield. Reason enough.

Funny you should mention that – it’s like going back to the original plan for the Callam Offices in Woden. One of the “features” of the intended design – back when they planned to have up to 23 of the pods up and down Callam St – was that there would be multiple entries and exits on different floor levels. The upper floor entries and walkways were for the pubes, and the lower for the general public, so the two classes never had to meet….

I like the bridge and look forward to using it when i have the chance, oh boy!

My favorite acronym is the Canberra University Netball Team. UCUNC!

It’s DIAC. Pronounced Die-Ack. Again, kind of apt.

I believe the old bridge was integrated with the other half crossing Benajmin way to the now demolished interchange, so it couldn’t have half removed and still maintain structural integrity. Also the old bridge was butt ugly.

Ah, Kramer… and recently DIAC have only had to mix with the plebs at the Pot Belly 🙂

But seriously it would be great once the bridge is up for businesses in the Churches Centre and pedestrians alike.

It would even have been nice for the bridge to have been near the site when the old one was knocked down rather than having to wait this long!

Excellent. The construction work has been horrible though. So much beeping!
🙁
