Although not a well kept secret, Mike Zissler, Chief Executive Officer of Lifeline Canberra, has confirmed he will be leaving Lifeline Canberra in mid-July. Carrie-Ann Leeson has been named as the incoming Chief Executive Officer, effective 30 June 2014.

“It is time for me to take on some other challenges and seek new and exciting opportunities,” said Zissler.

“I have spent the last 4 ½ years talking about the importance of suicide prevention in our community, and how we need to ensure we develop a strong and resilient community here in Canberra, and across our nation.”

“Suicide is a significant cause of death and I believe we all need to begin to discuss it more openly and look for a way we can all get involved and help prevent suicide.”

It is by looking to the future and the challenges it brings, that Pauline Thorneloe, President of Lifeline Canberra, announced the appointment of Leeson as the new Chief Executive Officer.

Both Zissler and Thorneloe intend to ensure that Lifeline Canberra is in good hands, and are positioning the organisation for a seamless handover to the new Chief Executive Officer in the coming weeks.

“Carrie brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to Lifeline Canberra” said Thorneloe.

“We are excited at the prospect of Carrie joining us in the middle of such a busy year… it is important that organisations such as Lifeline, who run services 24 hours a day, have a clear succession plan and a seamless handover.”

“I have every confidence that Mike and Carrie will achieve this handover and you will see the excellent work of Lifeline Canberra continue and grow.”

Leeson brings to Lifeline Canberra substantial experience from the private sector in highly commercial environments, as well as significant leadership experience and a background in preventative health programs and Psychology.

Leeson has been involved in Lifeline for the past 3 years, as a volunteer as well as on the Board of Directors. Her passion for Lifeline is evident in her approach to the organisation.

“I am honored to take on the CEO role at Lifeline Canberra as the company continues its amazing work. I’m thrilled to be more involved.” says Carrie Leeson.
