New Year resolutions in Canberra

By 31 December 2012 26

OK guys, knock yourselves out in the comments with your own resolutions, or those you’d like for others (not me or RiotACT as I’ll take pleasure in deleting those).

Or just knock yourselves out with festive spirit.

I intend to visit the Oaks Estate bottle shop. And also to try and be more tolerant. And to bench press lots more. Like tonnes.

Happy new year to everyone, including our moderator, without whom…

1. Get decent job/start career.
2. Start talking to people/Stop being super shy.
3. Get buff.
4. Get back in to playing the piano.

2013 is going to be a good year. Happy new year Rioters.

Going a year without alcohol! Who else is in?? I’ll let you know how many weeks I last! Hahahaha! :-) Cheers – the last one for a while hopefully!

I’d like to text less while tailgating with my fog lights on at midday, it just makes it impossible to not use the indicator and line up the cyclist at the same time.

I was thinking of starting a mobile mechanic service and permanently parking on the main intersection near Kambah Village. Seems to be an inordinate number of people who suffer from stuck accelerator cables in the area, and I reckon I could make some tasty coin. Could probably get a fleet in going in no time and expand through Belconnen, Charnwood, Queanbeyan, etc.

For a variety of reasons including work pressure and family illness I haven’t had much time to myself this year.

So in 2013, I’m going to play my guitars more. “Hanging Around” by The Stranglers is the first song for the new year, followed by some tasty blues. I’m going to read more, starting with “Undertones of War” by Edmund Blunden, which I’ve been meaning to read since I joined the Army. And I’m going to do more bushwalking, because there’s nothing like being in a place with no traffic noise in the background.

Above all, I’m going to spend more time doing good blokey things with my sons, who could do with a bit more attention from their dad.

I’d like to wish all Rioters a safe and prosperous 2013 doing things that bring you pleasure in the company of people you enjoy being with. And Hats Off to JB and the crew for keeping this show rolling along. I really enjoy coming here every day. :-)

Nice work :)

A happy new year to you, all other RA regulars/lurkers, johnboy and the rest of the crew involved in keeping this place running.

In spite of being out of Canberra for almost 4 years, I still visit here regularly, and have done since 2005 or so (yikes!) – there’s no other site like it. Kudos to everyone involved :)

I’ll be staying with my 2009 New Year Resolution, to get fit and be as muscly as possible. I never gave it up and have stuck with it since then. Don’t listen to the media reports saying most resolutions are broken within a few weeks. It is easy to stick with one if it is achievable and you have a firm commitment to better yourself.

To make my fame and fortune after being featured in the RiotACT “parking style” articles.

Still trying to reach my 2012 ny resolution that Ms Gillard said we should do….. Spending more time with family….but that’s merely impossible with the rising costs of living that I have to work 2 jobs….. So…. Ny resolution…. Try and achieve my last resolution…. :)

I’m going to try to remember to write “2013″.

Enjoy the next orbit, Rioters.

Give up the lung-busters, get rid of the fags, and stop smoking. And do it all again, and again, and again.

So right you lot – get ready for some seriously peeved posts!

Good luck, it’s the best thing you’ll ever do.

I recommend cold turkey, I tried (and failed) to quit with ‘assistants’ like patches/gum half a dozen times and found cold turkey (and a month long stint of nasty bronchitis) the best way to make it a permanent change.

Can I be your Northside rep?- I will park the van near the intersection of Copland and Ginninderra drive’s, stick out the sandwich board and offer a good intro price on indicator stick installation- by my count 1 in every 4 cars is missing theirs when they merge from Copland on to Gininderra.
Happy 2013 Rioters!

to buy a white commodore and park it perfectly.

I guess I’d like to up my bench, deadlift and squat.

Unfortunately the gym is going to be full of somewhat fat, perpetually sweaty 30-40 something men whom I’ve never seen before, who’ll spend the next month doing ineffective 3×8 rep, 3 day split routines that includes doing bicep curls in the squat rack, before disappearing without a trace. I get that these dweebs effectively subsidize my own gym membership, but it’s bloody annoying to have them around. I guess I might take the opportunity to cut for the next month or two.

No-one will notice. But park it badly, and see how quickly the phone cameras come out.

I don’t do New Year’s resolutions, as 1st January is an arbitrary date in an arbitrary calendar. And yes I do live in a narco-cynicalist commune.

Ok here goes. I need some help with a couple of my resolutions. I would like to learn German. And my wonderful deutsche damen also likes to foxtrot. Now I have 2 left feet and no apparent feeling for musical rhythm. Can someone suggest a good place who could teach a dance retard such as myself ?

Which gym do you go to?
