By popular demand Andy has followed up from his flight of the Seagulls with some actual pictures of New Year’s Eve fireworks over Civic as we rang in 2012.
Here’s what he had to say:
These are from both fireworks sessions. First lot from the top of Red Hill, where I witnessed the most amazing lack of intelligence in terms of parking for the event. Second lot was from a known less than optimum spot at Reconciliation Place.
I was more interested in the seagulls actually.
Camera used was my trusty and ancient Nikon D200 with Nikkor 80-200 f2.8. (with genuine Nikon remote shutter release (which works as well as the $7 aftermarket ones available online.)) Exposure times ranged from 2 to 2.5 seconds.
Here’s the slideshow:

Wow, great photos. Very pretty indeed.
Very nice Andy. In all my years of taking photos I’ve actually never got around to photographing fireworks in spite of really enjoying them. Your photos are quite vivid and I really enjoyed them and the shots you have on Flickr. Thanks for sharing them. I did have a go at doing some video of the fireworks but it’s fairly ordinary. Just a test really for future projects. See http://youtu.be/olANVdMbM7A
Not too bad for Canberra, I was watching the best fireworks in the world, you guested it Sydney

Smugness is more effective when served with correct spelling and punctuation. Just my opinion.

I love the Sydney fireworks. I was lucky enough to see them almost twenty years ago and they were spectacular even then. Check YouTube out to see what London did this year. Simply awesome!
