In amongst the many changes across the National Gallery of Australia has been the opening up of a new exhibition of photographs from their own collection.

The exhibition is titled: The world is beautiful.

The curator, Shaune Lakin, has chosen some of the gems from the NGA’s vast photography collection.

For the lovers of photography as a way of seeing our world, this is indeed an engaging selection that should be experienced.

The exhibition is an opportunity to spend time with photographs taken by many of the well-known photographers from the past century. Included are artists such as Tracey Moffatt, Cindy Sherman, Diane Arbus, Raghubir Singh, Brian Brake, Man Ray, Bill Henson, Helen Levitt, Olive Cotton, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Ansel Adams, Nicholas Nixon, Tina Modotti, Edward Weston and the list goes on…

The exhibition illustrates just how strong the medium of photography is and continues to be. Let’s hope the NGA will continue to stage regular photography exhibitions – it makes sense given the eager and dedicated audience for photography.

The NGA’s The world is beautiful is definitely worth a visit – or two.

It is open until 10 April 2016 – free entry.
