ACT Policing is appealing for witnesses to two explosions that occurred at ICBM and Meche in the early hours of Sunday morning (February 13).

The nightclub explosions were caused by similar commercial grade fireworks that launch into the air and explode in a bursting firework pattern. They have the potential to cause serious injury or death if mishandled.

About 1.30am patrons from Meche were forced to evacuate when fireworks were lit inside the male toilets, causing major damage and smoke to fill the nightclub. A second explosion occurred at ICBM about 3.40am. This second explosion also occurred in the male toilets.

Two people, one from each incident, were conveyed to The Canberra Hospital by the ACT Ambulance Service with minor injuries. One of these people is assisting police with the investigation.

Initial damage is estimated to be in excess of $50,000. The explosions caused both nightclubs to cease trading for the evening.

Police are urging anyone who may have been in the area and may have witnessed anyone acting suspiciously to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or via www.act.crimestoppers.com.au. Information to Crime Stoppers may be provided anonymously.

Word is they caught an offender at the scene of the crime, posing as a “victim”.

I saw someone being taken away by the ambulance on Northbourne, they were handcuffed and the police were hanging around…?

And the Bomb Squad parked their truck at the rear of the platform where the Night Rider buses come in, so every bus had to swing in around them. Pain in the bum, but good driving practice.
