Shane Rattenbury is celebrating Nightrider patronage figures:

Minister for Territory and Municipal Services, Shane Rattenbury, today announced that ACTION’s 2012 Nightrider bus service shuttled over 2,460 people safely home throughout December 2012, breaking the New Year’s Eve patronage record on the way.

“ACTION’s Nightrider service again proved to be a popular and affordable option for Canberrans to get home safely after a night out in the City this festive season,” Mr Rattenbury said.

“The service achieved a record number of passengers on New Year’s Eve with 1,246 patrons opting to use the service to travel home. This is an increase of 10 percent compared to 2011.

“I hope we can continue to grow Nightrider’s patronage, as well as to find ways to improve and expand the service.

“Late night public transport options play an important role in making Canberra safer and in giving people

Sooo… half the patronage the one night you can’t get a taxi for love or money?

If I could go out, drink a couple of bottles of red with friends, watch some live music and have a few laughs then catch the bus home I would do so in a heartbeat. Unfortunately the bus doesn’t run near enough to where I live.

Are you talking about the Nightrider, or at times when it’s not running? If you were referring to Nightrider, they don’t operate to a set route. Rather, they drop you as close to your home as the bus can practically go.

It makes sense to have public transport during large public events. Just need to make sure it’s well displayed on their website so people can plan their trip.

But 2,608 people used the service in 2011, so it was actually a 6% reduction in total passenger numbers.

There are lies, damn lies, and Government media releases.

For some people, getting drunk is the only way they’ll ride an Action bus…….

Does this mean the drunks are humping at the back of the bus…?

Yep i’m totally ok with your terminology, drunks it is!

What a dreadful generalisation to presume that all of the people who used the Nightrider service last year were drunks!
