If you go down to the woods today you’re sure of a big surprise!

Members of the Yarralumla Residents Association checking on the state of the ACT government’s planned remediation of the Brickworks asbestos dump were surprised to find what appears to be asbsestos lying on the ground just outside the perimeter fence that has been built to keep the community at least 10 metres away from the area being remediated and tested for asbestos.

It was revealed at an ACT government information session on September 3 that government consultants had discovered asbestos hotspots outside the known asbestos dump when they conducted their investigation in 2006.

So how much more of the land in the Quarry and the land near the brickworks is contaminated? No-one seems to know.
