Art thief Chief Minister Jon Stanhope has announced that the artworks given to the Lanyon homestead by Sir Sidney Nolan have now gone on display in his pet gallery across Civic Square from the Legislative Assembly:

Chief Minister Jon Stanhope said it was good to see the iconic works of the Foundation Collection displayed in a purpose-built, dedicated gallery space.

“One of the great things about the new gallery space is that it ensures these works are readily accessible to the whole community and CMAG is celebrating the permanent display with an array of associated educational and community programs focusing on the Foundation Collection,” Mr Stanhope said.

“These will include, over the coming months, school-holiday programs, a printmaking workshop for adults and art-making programs inspired by the Kelly series, for young Canberrans in the Kindergarten to Year 2 age group.”

The first in the series of upcoming activities will be a Director’s floor-talk about the Foundation Collection, at 12.30pm on Friday 13 August 2010 at the Nolan Collection Gallery at CMAG.

Ah, no links?

Google “kieron williamson” and check out google images.
Excellent work, he may have the potential to develop into another Turner.

Why am I not surprised to see the name “Sidney Nolan” in the same article as the phrase “for young Canberrans in the Kindergarten to Year 2 age group”?

Incidentally, here is one 7-year-old whose painting is streets ahead of Nolan’s skill-deficient daubing:

so where do we stand with Lady Nolan – last I saw she claimed that the arrangement under which they were loaned had been broken by the ACT Government and she wanted her husband’s paintings back. Anyone know?
