Nothing new from the public accounts committee

The Liberals’ Jeremy Hanson has been trying to beat up the health statistics scandal but realistically there’s nothing that wasn’t in the Auditor-General’s original report. Which is a pity:

ACT Auditor General Maxine Cooper today faced a Public Accounts Committee hearing about her report into the Canberra Hospital data doctoring scandal. ACT Shadow Health Minister Jeremy Hanson said today that the Auditor General confirmed the data doctoring scandal was not isolated to one person and that the decline in Emergency Department performance over the last decade may be worse than previously reported.

“In today’s hearing the Auditor General made it very clear that in her view there was more than one person doctoring the figures, and that those other people responsible have not been identified,” Mr Hanson said.

“The Auditor General also confirmed that a number of hospital staff agreed with the concerns raised by the individual at the centre of the scandal who says she was pressured into doctoring the data because of; “feelings of fear, isolation and distress…”.
