The War Memorial is giving notice that the old pines in the commemorative area are going to have to go:

The Memorial wishes to advise that it has become necessary to remove the pines trees located in the Commemorative Area. Advice received from a tree surgeon has recommended the removal of the pine trees, as they are at the end of their life and have become pot-bound. This particular species has a tendency to grow too large for a space the size of the Commemorative Area.

Specialist arborist contractors will be removing the trees in conjunction with the Memorial’s horticulturalist contractors under the supervision of Buildings and Services staff.

The removal of the pine trees will occur on Thursday 16 May from 7 am.
