Two men held up Red Rooster takeaway/restaurant at Wanniassa last night, threatening a store attendant with assault before leaving with a small amount of cash.

ACT Policing is seeking witnesses to the aggravated robbery, which occurred at around 8.30pm last night at the restaurant on the corner of Langdon Avenue and Rylah Crescent.

The men approached the front counter and demanded the attendant open the cash register. When the attendant refused they threatened to assault them.

The attendant then complied with the offenders’ demands and the pair left the restaurant with a small amount of cash.

The offenders were seen getting into a late model Toyota Camry sedan with no registration plates driving along Athllon Drive, Wanniassa.

Police are urging anyone who may have any information that could assist them to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the Crime Stoppers ACT website. Please quote reference 5990451. Information can be provided anonymously.

This is the second time this Red Rooster store has had an Armed Robbery lately and the Coles next door was also attacked by a man with a knife the other week. Add the Burns Club recently being viscously attacked by armed robbers twice within a week and I think there is a problem that is being ignored by Mr nothing to worry about in Tuggeranong Police Minister Simon Corbell. He has a track record of ignoring crime issues in this area including this from 2010 http://www.abc.net.au/local/stories/2010/08/09/2977588.htmo

Hear, hear. The staff at Red Rooster (and the rest of Wanniassa shops) are really lovely. It makes me angry and frustrated when I hear about this happening so frequently.

Second that, all the staff there are great people, so friendly. Hope they get caught quickly.

Time for ACT Government to finally do something about the increasing issues hurting residents in the Kambah / Wanniassa area. According to latest SA2 Labour Market data Unemployment isn’t coming down in Kambah like it is for the rest of Canberra and it remains the most Mortgaged Stressed area in all of Australia according to Digital Finance Analytics.

It’s no wonder you are getting these longer term criminal issues when you close 3 Kambah Government schools and cause a slide in School and Student performances according to NAPLAN, reduce Government Services to the area, cause store closures by increasing rates as well as not providing any entertainment opportunities for Youth in the area.

It may surprise Andrew Barr, but I bet it doesn’t surprise anyone else reading this that you get an increase in serious crime when you have a struggling area with a total lack of Police presence ever since they closed the Erindale Police Station around the turn of the century.

Wanniassa Red Rooster again? Fair dinkum, they should change the sign on the door from Trading Hours to Robbing Hours.
