Panel reviewing non-government school approvals

Today Joy Burch announced a panel which will be providing advice as a part of a review of the in-principle approval process for non-government schools in the ACT.

Craig Curry and Narelle Hargreaves, who both have extensive education backgrounds, have agreed to analyse the submissions from interested groups about the current processes.

“They both bring a breadth of expertise in school education and an understanding of the three ACT education sectors,” Ms Burch said.

“I am confident this process will provide me with valuable suggestions to guide me in my consideration of the current system and proposals for improvement.”

Mr Curry is currently Chair of the Government Schools Education Council, and has previously held several leadership roles in education including as a Executive Director in the ACT Education and Training Directorate, Manager of Special Education at the NSW Department of Education and Training, and as Principal at several NSW schools.

Ms Hargreaves is currently Chair of the Non-Government Schools Education Council. She has many years of teaching experience, including 14 years as a Principal in ACT schools. She alsoheld the position of Director of Schools & International Education and Community Partnerships with the ACT Education & Training Directorate for 10 years.

“This review will look at ways to improve the processes and practices related to applications for in-principle approval of new non-government schools and campuses and the registration of non-government schools.
