Goooood morning Rioters!

It’s a new working week and it’s time to set the tone for your work week by immediately slacking off and looking at some parking photos!

Boom!

If you happen across a terrible example of parking, make sure to snap a photo and send it in to images@the-riotact.com.

Include “parking” in the subject and make sure to tell us what name you would like to be credited with.

1. Brandi begins our day:

A perennial favourite.

Title park

2. Joss delivers a study on carparks:

Park Park Park Park

3. A riot newbie has been proving herself in the field of stealth parking photography:

Incognito shot of poor pole negotiation at Belconnen mall

Newbie

Almost got it!! Dickson by night.

Riot

4. Kazza the Blank One has a backlog to get through:

Seen at Ainslie shops a few weeks ago

White one

this one in red bridge carpark belconnen, behind immigration

Not white one

5. Busbooster does the reading:

I spotted these tradies in Kingston on Wednesday morning. Wasn’t sure whether it was kosher or not so I checked out Section 197 of the Australian Road Rules – Stopping on a path, dividing strip or nature strip

(1) A driver must not stop on a bicycle path, footpath, shared path or dividing strip, or a nature strip adjacent to a length of road in a built-up area, unless:
(a) the driver stops at a place on a length of road, or in an area, to which a parking control sign applies and the driver is permitted to stop at that place under the Australian Road Rules , or
(b) the driver is permitted to stop under another law of this jurisdiction; or
(c) the driver is a tradie.

Seems legit.

Seems Legit

6. Gasman presumes well:

Riding home, just outside Arboretum entrance, on-ramp to GDE.

I presume the Bike Lane sign refers not to the patch of dirt which it has been poked in to, but the the bit of bitumen that the car is parked in.

Not a bike

7. Toby counts to three:

Covering all options.

Countdown

8. Harold puts in the effort:

This special effort at Jamison.

Shiny

9. Loxmyf has also been keeping an eye on Jamison:

Nice job by a Corolla behind Jamison

Ichi

Another behind Jamison, this time in the keep clear zone that trucks use when reversing into the loading dock

Ni

“I was only there for 2 seconds” doesn’t fly.

San

These 2 were Belconnen Mall in the painted line bit at the end of one of the rows

Shi Go

10. Adrian gets straight to the point:

Parking – Mercedes at Nicholls shops

Straight coz of the line, get it?

11. Pork Hunt is on the job:

Snapped this near University Ave in the city.

Not pork

12. Jamian found this park tucked away in the corner:

Sneaky

13. Logan only sent me two photos:

Snapped these 3 at Masters and Jim Murphy’s at the airport on Saturday. The bloke in the first one was obviously not even thinking about parking because he even left his can of coke on the roof.

Sorry Logan

14. Nixter is nicer than I am:

Spotted at Canberra Hospital, Sunday 25/8/13.

I took the liberty of blocking out the business name on the car, hope that’s OK.

You got off easy car

15. Sheep Groper has not actually left his hiding spot outside the chemist for several weeks:

Although the cheap chemist was a happy hunting ground for those who like zebra crossings they need to park nearly on top of them, some parking miscreants were spotted further afield.

Chemist... Down the road from the chemist... Really far away fromt he chemist... No idea... Nope...

16. Harold is harsh but fair:

This one had empty spaces in front, so no excuses.

Fancy car

17. Jase isn’t a fan:

The gormless masses use every kind of transport.

EXCITE BIKE!

18. Tim is the hero Kingston deserves:

From the parking-inspector-vacuum of Kingston…

The driver of the blue Honda doesn’t seem to know what side of the road to drive on.

Almost done Getting close

The driver of the “Kia-Sportage-look-alike” Subaru parks in a “No Stopping” zone – judging by the scowl on her face as she gets out, it is because she is so angry at the world and everyone in it (apologies for the poor image quality – they are images from video files that were taken with a cheap action cam mounted to a moving vehicle).

And... Finished!

How do you get the parking inspectors to go in a book cars that are parked on the footpath?
Moubray St in Belconnen has cars using the footpath like a carpark, which is a pain when it is raining and you have to walk up the road to get home.

Re number 18 – I seem to remember that in the UK where I learned to drive, that parking on the road but facing in the other direction is perfectly legal. At least everyone seemed to be at it for no penalty. So you get people driving down the road looking for a park not just on their side but also on the other side – ready to speed across another lane at any moment! What fun it all must have been.

What would one expect from a race of people who think that the best place for a washing machine is in the kitchen?

It’s not the best place, it’s usually the only place because your house/flat/bedsit is so tiny. The best fun is to be had by putting the washing machine on a timer, to come on at night using off-peak electricity, knowing that the vibrations from the 2+ hours cycle including a 1200RPM spin cycle, and maybe a couple of hours of built-in tumble dryer, are much more audible in the flats above and below you than in your bedroom. Oh how I miss my Clapham flat.

But I think parking on the wrong side of the road may be illegal in the UK too, but just isn’t enforced because they have better things to worry about. When a street is so narrow, and lined by parked cars on both sides, there is no wrong and right side of the road anyway, just the middle.

How does Logan park his Semi Dump truck when he’s anywhere but a truck stop?

3b is in the lines. Don’t lower the quality of the whole thread by putting things in there that don’t belong.

Can the quality get any lower? No, seriously this is by far my favourite part of riotact. It deserves its own version of the Mully Cup. Best parking pic of the month, voted by you.

I would vote for that Busbooster if I could – always so witty (what a wit!), but there are too many other excellent submissions this week. Can’t choose between Adrian’s (#10) so-keyable Mercedes Doublepark or Tim’s (#18) Scowly Kia. Not sure why it was pixellated – what is this, google maps? I saw that scowl before she was pixellated – pure scowly gold. WTF I think.

I meant ‘FTW I think’.

Who would make such a silly mistake? (-:

So Urban Dictionary is wrong when it claims “Parked spottos do not count.”

Has seen the call often enough to be curious…

Who lives their life by Urban Dictionary? We’re out there, on the streets, doing it.

Is that a contradiction ?

I don’t get what’s wrong with the Mitsu in #2 – I mean if they want to park close to a column, it’s their paintwork. So long as they’re in the lines and not messing up other drivers.

I’m quite impressed with 2d. Not bad.

Don’t see much wrong with the truck in 13b, seems legal to me.

2aIi dont see a problem with that one.. I always park next to a pole if one if avaliable as you can get real colse and it leaves pleanty of room on the other side..

Personally, I don’t see any problem with 2a/2d – that’s some precision parking there in what appear to be micro parking spaces. The real problem is not the poor person trying to park there, but that car park owners/operators are allowed to call that a car parking space!

Btw: No, it’s not my car!

I agree. They’re between the lines, not blocking anyone else, and if there’s no-one on the back passenger side to get in or out, there’s really not a problem (that bit being up to them anyway).

So Urban Dictionary is wrong when it claims “Parked spottos do not count.”

I always want to snuggle up to cars parked like #10, especially if it makes it hard for them to get into the drivers door. and #17 is perfectly legal – if you were in Melbourne.

Def not legal here… Cars are ALWAYS parked facing the wrong way on Nangari St in the City. I think this comes from the confusion that half the street is one way.

Parking inspectors are always booking cars along the stretch that is dual ways.

A sterling effort from the readership this week!

Spotto! – just went by on Hindmarsh drive – (you can’t see it).

I just found I’m the only one playing spotto in my office.
