ACT Policing is seeking witnesses to a robbery near Hindmarsh Drive, in Phillip last night (Wednesday, January 16).
Around 7pm a couple from Lyons went for a walk to the Chifley shops with their 10-month old child in a pram.
As they walked from beneath the pedestrian underpass on Hindmarsh Drive, they were approached from behind by a boy who held a rock in his hand, menaced the couple with the rock, and demanded money from the couple.
The boy then struck the 34-year-old male victim on the face with the rock, and threatened the woman and her child. The victim then surrendered a small sum of cash, and the offender fled back into the underpass in the direction of Lyons.
The offender was described as being fair-skinned, thin build, 165¬—168cm (5’5” to 5’6”) tall and wearing a T-shirt and shorts.
A short time later, police located a 14-year-old boy whose appearance was similar to the description provided. The boy was questioned, details were taken, and he was released into the care of a responsible adult pending further police enquiries.
Police investigations into the incident are ongoing and any witnesses are urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via www.act.crimestoppers.com.au. Information can be provided anonymously.

A 14 year old with a rock…. versus a 34 year old (presumably) able-bodied man? And he gave the brat money? Really??

Some peeps are 100% against violence. So be it. Me, if someone threatened my child or wife, they better start praying to whatever gods they believe in, because at the very least they will never walk again.

And a puny 14 year-old at that. Shame.

Sure thing tough guy.
I could understand if they were taken by surprise and he surrendered the cash, but the kid had given them plenty of warning. To allow him to get close enough and strike you in the face, let’s be honest, you’d have to be a bit dim.

The fine/incarceration for daring to raise your hand, nay , your voice even, to such a youth would be far more punitive than handing over $20.
He’s bound to already have a legion of social workers, care and protection workers, youth justice workers, young men’s workers, police and citizens youth club workers, and other well meaning people behind him already. Their sole purpose wouldbe to see that you are punished, and that he gets off Scot free, and with added support tagged on.
I find it bizarre that this thread is filled with people who have little to no empathy with a helpless 10-month old child in the pram, and the only thing in their mind is to prove how tough they are.

Gotta screen shot to prove that?

Peeps that say otherwise have no wife or kids.
I used to be a tough guy, but now I’m a lot older and wiser. And I really, really don’t believe in fighting people.
Still, lines have to be drawn somewhere. I reckon I could still collect enough vital juices to tell a teeny little grommet like the one described, armed only with a rock, to either piss off or bring it on.
Since I assume his first priority was to ensure his wife and baby were safe, and giving the kid a whooping was a far second, I’d say he was successful. If taking a rock to the face was the price to pay to keep his family safe then I think we’d all do it. I’d rather a bit of embarrassment to being a tough guy and having my baby hurt.
I hope I’d be able to teach a punk like this a lesson if it was me, but since I fortunately haven’t been there, I’ll reserve judgement.

‘Peeps’ with a knife in their gut might not get to say goodbye to their wife and kids…

And a airplane may fall on my head tommorow, but just as unlikely.

More likely to get knifed, given the relative frequency of reports of people getting stabby in the ACT versus those of aircraft falling from the sky.
