Canberra CBD is celebrating an estimated 3,000 public urinators being diverted from the walls of our fair town to their pissoirs over the festive period:

A second round of urinal trials in Canberra CBD late-night hot spots during the Christmas, New Years Eve and Summernats period has finished with successful results once again.

Data collected recorded an estimated 3000 men had used the urinals over the 10 day Christmas New Year period conducted on Thursday-Sundaynights from Dec 19-22 and again from Dec 31-Jan 6 2014.

Results indicated that across the 10 days of the trial the most popular nights of use were New Years Eve and New Years Day evening, with the most popular locations opposite King O’Malley’s Pub and Cube Nightclub.

Canberra CBD Limited’s Chief Executive Officer, Jane Easthope, said they were pleased with the continued positive results.

“Continued success proves that the urinals actually serve their purpose and we are particularly pleased that the men in the clubbing and pubbing community are enjoying the convenience of the portable urinals,” Ms Easthope said.

“Results validate the urinals worth and demonstrate that our work and initiatives are helping to keep the City centre cleaner and more usable.”

With a positive track record, the trials can only improve with reviews surrounding accurate peak times and the most effective evenings.

“We envisaged a spike in usage during Summernats which surprisingly did not transpire, bringing to light a review of the urinals removal in the future.
“We also want to ascertain the benefits of poster advertising in venues and the early placement of the urinals prior to scheduled peak times.”

The Kros urinals were placed in the Sydney Building’s Verity Lane (behind Moosehead’s pub on the median strip), in the bus interchange on the corner of Alinga Street and Verity Lane, and on City Walk near the corner of Saraton Lane (opposite King O’Malleys pub)- with two new locations on Bunda Street and Petrie Plaza.
