PM’s XI aiming to start after Midday

By 3 February, 2012 10

It’s good weather for ducks, less so for Canberra’s biggest day of cricket.

The Beast is reporting they’re hoping to kick off play in a truncated match after midday.

UPDATE 03/02/12 13:15: Play now abandoned.

i was a bit gobsmacked when driving to work and hearing the match was still on. Oh no it’s not, I thought. This is an easterly-driven system, and it’s going to play itself out. The BOM got the initial forecast wrong and seems to have failed to grapple with it as it eventuated. With the easterly airflow (which has been going for weeks) and this injection of weather from the north, you’ve got an almost-coastal weather situation.

I decided against wearing my PM’s XI tie from the last time Sri Lanka played since I wasn’t going to today’s match. I hope the washout isn’t an augury for the PM’s fortunes this year.

PS Is it too late to replace the game with water polo at Manuka pool?

Now we just have to wait for the inevitable cricket and weather metaphors from lazy journalists.

“The only thing being hit for six today in Canberra was the Prime Minister’s standing in the polls”

“The match was abandoned, much like support for Julia Gillard from Tasmianian MPs”

“As the clouds loomed over Manuka over, even darker clouds remain over the Julia Gillard’s Prime Ministership”

You’re right, she should be applauded. The Carbon Tax has out a stop to global warming already!

Looks like Jessica Wright in the SMH was way ahead of you, CrocodileGhandi. You’re a late comer.

This is worse:

‘Ms Gillard may have been caught as she slipped, but nothing was caught in any position today at Manuka Oval, and no wickets tumbled either, as the PM’s XI match against Sri Lanka was abandoned due to the unseasonable advent of rain.’ You could probably wedge a maiden over in there, somewhere, if you really tried.

I’m just glad I didn’t book tickets.

That’s a real shame. The PM’s XI is always good fun. There’s no chance that the game could be rescheduled?
