Operation School Safe begins today (Friday, September 30), and will see an increase in police patrols around school grounds vacated until the end of term three break (Sunday, October 16).

ACT Policing conducts Operation School Safe each school holiday period, in an effort to deter property damage and burglaries to school grounds.

In the past school holiday period (July 9 – 24), ACT Policing responded to seven incidents of property damage, and seven burglaries at schools.

Officer in Charge of Tuggeranong Police Station, Sergeant Rod Anderson, said while police patrols in school areas will increase over the next fortnight, the community’s assistance is vital in helping protect their local schools.

“While police will provide a visible presence around schools during the holiday break, we can’t do this 24 hours a day. We are seeking assistance from the community to prevent property damage to schools during the holidays,” Sergeant Anderson said.

If you see or hear people acting suspiciously in or around schools, contact Police Operations immediately on 131-444.
