Police seek man over taxi theft in Charnwood

ACT Policing is seeking the public’s help to identify the man pictured in relation to the theft and property damage of a taxi in West Belconnen on July 29.

About 1am, the male passenger was picked up from an address in Melba. While in the vicinity of the Charnwood shops, he allegedly forced the taxi driver out of the vehicle, got into the driver’s seat, and drove away.

The taxi has since been recovered from an address in Watson, with damage to the exterior and items taken from the vehicle including a sum of money.

The man is described as being around 175cm (5’9”) tall with a solid build and dark complexion – possibly of Pacific Islander/Maori or South American appearance.

ACT Policing is urging the man pictured, or anyone with any information in relation to his identity, to come forward and speak with police.
