1. There was an arson attack on Radford College on Tuesday night. Disgruntled former student finally getting something off his chest?

ACT Policing has arrested a 29-year-old Belconnen man after the alleged burglary and lighting of fires at Radford College, Bruce, on Tuesday (November 11).

Around 11.30pm police were called to the school following reports from a security guard of a man acting suspicious on the premises. When police arrived they discovered a number of small fires in rubbish bins and one within a classroom. ACT Fire Brigade attended and extinguished the fires. Offensive language had also been written on the classroom walls and fly wire screens had been removed from the adjacent sport centre building.

A man was located a short time later walking along College Street, Belconnen allegedly with property from the school. He has been charged with burglary and arson and will face the ACT Magistrates Court today (November 13).

2. Another suspected arson, this time in Yarralumla, I blame all the Norwesters we’ve been having:

ACT Policing is calling for witnesses to a suspicious house fire in Yarralumla this morning (November 14).

Around 5.20am police were called to the Musgrave Street address where the ACT Fire Brigade was already in attendance. The fire was extinguished but several rooms and the roof were damaged.

No people were injured in the fire.

At the time of the fire neighbouring residences were woken and informed of the incident but an evacuation was deemed unnecessary.

AFP Forensic Services are expected to attend the scene.
