1. Stabby Shoplifter!

ACT Policing has arrested two men after an incident this afternoon (Friday, August 7) in which a shoplifter allegedly produced a knife in an attempt to avoid apprehension.

The incident occurred around 3.15pm today when a store security guard attempted to stop and question two alleged shoplifters at a Woden Plaza store.

Some property was recovered, then one offender allegedly produced a knife and both men ran from the Plaza toward the Woden Bus Interchange.

Police responded and began an immediate search of the area, locating a male answering to a description provided. A 32-year-old Holder man was taken into custody on one of the interchange platforms, a knife and a replica firearm was seized during the arrest, and he is currently being questioned by police.

A 30-year-old man from Latham was apprehended about half an hour later inside the Plaza. Police interviews and investigations are ongoing.

Police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed these incidents and can provide details which would assist the investigation to contact Crime Stoppers.

If you can help police contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or online.

Either the police responded incredibly quickly (and good on them) or these guys are dumbasses for hanging around the general Woden Plaza area after a confrontation like that. Could be both

I saw this. I was having a coffee with a mate at the cafe at the back of the plaza at about 4:30 and watched as the cops removed one of these scum from the centre in handcuffs. Another cop walked behind carrying three bags pretty much full of stolen clothing.

I would have loved to have been quicker with my camera phone though as the idiot in handcuffs was wearing a black t-shirt with the work ‘WANKER’ emblazoned on the back in big white letters. I kid you not.

It’s nice that these guys have now started to label themselves for our pleasure.

huuuuge, just saw your post on the other thread (which is quickly going down hill…).

Have you been updated on the proceedings at all?

From what you say, it sounds like he was remanded in custody for the first three weeks, then probably granted bail after that.

How did he plead? Is he on bail, due to go to trial, been sentenced already? If no one’s bothered letting you know, try calling the DPP or police and see where the process is at.

Next time they ask you to fill in for security, tell ‘em to bugger off!
