Well look at this.
Cricket Australia have announced that the greatest Australian batsman since Bradman is going to do a victory lap as captain of the Prime Minister’s XI at Manuka Oval on January 29.
The match will be played against the West Indies on Tuesday 29 January at Manuka Oval, and a capacity crowd is expected.
Ricky Ponting is thrilled about the opportunity to captain the Prime Minister’s XI.
“It’s a big honour for me to be selected as captain of the Prime Minister’s XI.”
“It will be an exciting team of emerging cricketers and I’m looking forward to leading them against the West Indies on January 29.”
As for the rest of the team, that will be selected by Cricket Australia’s National Selection Panel (NSP) with input from Prime Minister Julia Gillard, and will be announced in January.
One shudders to think what the input from Prime Minister Gillard will consist of.
But a Manuka send off for Punter against the windies in a first ever day/night match will be a gloriously messy thing.
