The Greens are celebrating the un-capping of Housing ACT’s Priority Waiting List.

Amanda Bresnan MLA, ACT Greens spokesperson for Housing, has welcomed the Minister for Community Services removal of the artificial cap on the number of people who can access Housing ACT’s Priority Waiting List, as recommended by the ACT Ombudsman.

The Minister made the announcement in response to Greens pursuing the issue through Legislative Assembly question time.

“There is an increasing demand for public housing in the ACT, especially for people in extraordinary need. There must be clear processes to determine who is at the top of the waiting list,” Ms Bresnan said today.

“Housing ACT has a policy of limiting the Priority Waiting List to 150 applicants*, and processing officers have had to arbitrarily determine who gets to be considered for that list.

So if you’re waiting for public housing you’d better get onto the priority list.
