The ABC is carrying a call from Senator Nick Xenophon for thousands of public servants to make good on what super they can get.

A Senate committee recently completed an inquiry into claims that public servants were wrongly told they could not join the Commonwealth Superannuation Scheme.

One union alone – the Media Entertainment and Arts Alliance – claims its members could be owed up to $30 million.

Nick the Greek is clueless about the CSS. End of story.

This is where to get the report –

Many temp employees, for example, were advised prior to the introduction of compulsory superannuation in 1992 that they were not eligible to join the superannuation scheme. Some were employees for decades.

So who are these thousands of public servants? And when were they told they couldn’t join CSS? Is it really so hard to put together a news story that includes some background? Or is journalism just about reprinting press releases these days?

(talking about the ABC story here, not the RA)
