Raiders mull throwing in the towel on juniors development

By johnboy - 5 September 2013 3

An unusually antsy Canberra Raiders are sharing their view on the salary cap auditor blocking Raiders Junior Mitch Cornish from playing this Sunday.

“We constantly question why we invest so much into our junior development program, and this is another reason why we will review it, along with a zero benefit in developing your own juniors from a salary cap perspective.” Furner said.

I’m with Furner on this one, although threatening to take ones bat and ball and go home is probably not in the long term interests of the club.

The raiders make good case for the ad playing. Not sure what his pedigree is, is he a genuine local junior or did they bring him in to their system really early (like 12 or13)?

After I finished playing In the A grade at Manly they brought in a points system for teams so they didn’t get stacked with ex NRL players, as some teams were doing. End result was, the longer you were with a club, the less points were attributed to you. Ex NRL players attracted maximum points. Juniors and thsevwithbte club more than 5 years were zero points, meaning that clubs nurtured their juniors

God I had it when your figure brushes the submit button on the iPad. I didn’t even get a chance to review what I’d written let alone finish.

I think you’ll get my drift though. Happy to provide any clarifications.

He’s from Goulburn, pretty sure he’s only been in the Raiders system since juniors.
