Raiders reduced to speed bumps in the Rabbitohs fairytale journey. Canberra 16, Souths 38

Foxsports has the grim tidings from last night’s thrashing of the Raiders:

South Sydney are one step away from a first grand final appearance in 41 years after brushing aside Canberra 38-16 in Saturday’s NRL semi-final at ANZ Stadium.

Rookie halfback Adam Reynolds was the star of the show for the Rabbitohs, scoring a try and kicking seven goals on his way to becoming only the second player in the club’s history to chalk up more than 200 points in a season.

Eric Simms was the last player to record that feat in 1970 – the year the Rabbitohs won the 19th of their 20 premierships – and they must now beat Canterbury next Saturday if they are to add to that tally.

The win was Souths’ first finals victory in 25 years.

(Note how the Raiders are irrelevant to the narrative)

That’s it for Raiders Fever (TM) 2012, hope you enjoyed the ride.

I’m sorry to have upset you Dr Koresh, I did not mean to patronise. My tone was intended to be jovial sarcasm, sorry it came across as smug.

I don’t have much time for sport, like nationalism its primary purpose seems to be to divide the populace and provide a common enemy. I don’t think less of someone for enjoying a game, but I suppose I do hold some level if disdain for the zealots who hold their game or team as supreme and holy.

Mostly I’m just mad that sport results are considered news, every channel dedicates a quarter of their news to the latest scores in various games. Its not that I particularly dislike sport, I just think the footy results are about as important as the checkers results or someones farmville score.

So maybe that feeling shows through some how, but I wasn’t trying to be patronising.

Bwahahahahahaha, either too puny to play and only game enough to sit and belittle from behind a computer keyboard or 200kg and too lazy to do anything else but sit and belittle from behind a computer keyboard so as to become 250kg next month.

I do not mean to insult or troll, if someone has criticism of me, I take it on board and try to rectify my actions. I am open to having my opinions changed by convincing logical arguments. Dr Koresh raised a legitimate concern and I attempted to address that point. I still find hand egg uninteresting and have not shifted from that position.

I played sport in school, I was pretty midling, not the worst, not the best, just uninterested. Playing can be fun enough, like any game, but watching it can be quite dull, like any game.

Also I said that rape was *like* a cry for help, in that their actions clearly show they need help. Not that they brutally assaulted a young girl with the specific intent of seeking help. You’re either misunderstanding or misrepresenting my comments.

Would you honestly say footballers aren’t meat heads? Isn’t half the point to bulk up and then bash into each other? And is it really fair to even call it football when it is clearly hand egg? I am sorry for upsetting people, but I still think my description was more accurate than belittling.

That was never my point. I think rugby is a mugs game – bunch of gorillas on one side trying to bash through bunch of gorillas on the other side to see who gets the banana – you were far from offending me.

I was just highly amused at how completely owned you got by Koresh’s comment #10 and how hard you tried to wriggle out of it instead of sticking to your guns. Proves you know you got owned. You won’t manage to offend anyone in future if they know how easily you fold.

Being owned is a trolls kryptonite. How does it feel?

Let me guess, someone wasn’t very good at sport and got teased by the ‘meatheads’ when younger?

Basically you’ve now had a few goes now at complaining that other people’s interests don’t align with your own and are somehow less important because of it. Grow up.

Wow now you’re just embarrassing yourself.

You refer to them as a bunch of meat heads playing… what was it… hand egg?… and then have the temerity to claim you weren’t trying to be patronizing? What do you take us all for? Footballers???

Seems to me ‘ol Koresh called you on it and called it good. Whats the point of trying so hard to backpedal your way out of it with apology and excuses? Makes you sound like a fool. (and i mean fool in the sense of someone who acts unwisely fyi)

Please forgive me for using a sporting term: DrKoresh 1, Truthiness nill 😛

p.s. The intended tone of this post is jovial sarcasm. That kind of sarcasm generally doesn’t travel through text well. Take note.

It’s been 24 hours, and I haven’t seen a single post calling for the sacking of the coach, the board, the equipment manager, etc.

Raiders supporters, as much as you might have hated him earlier this season, I believe you could do well to keep Furner for another couple of years.

Agreed, and he’s a nice guy as well..

Where did I belittle “the proles”? The only people I belittled here were football players, and even then I only called them uninteresting meat heads, which is hardly the height of pretentious snobbery, more like stating the bleeding obvious really.

I don’t think I am “intellectually superior” to anyone, even football players. Intelligence isn’t a linear scale, it isn’t a score that can be beaten. A mechanic has one kind of intelligence, a doctor has another, to compare the two is oranges to apples. There may be some overlapping mental skills between various kinds of intellect, but testing only a subset of skills will never provide an objective measurement of intellect.

No, I called them uninteresting, not because they themselves incapable of piquing interest, but because I am uninterested in their interests.

Why bother writing at all? Because other responses have a tendency to lend undue import to these cavortings, it seems prudent to display a proportional level of distaste, if only to balance the discussion.

Don’t play coy, your post was patronising with undertones of unwarranted smugness, and I doubt I’m the only one here who thinks so.

Oh no! A group of thoroughly dull individuals who live somewhat near me lost at game of hand egg against another group of meatheads from slightly further away. Shock! Horror! My world is collapsing.

Remember how you denied my accusations of pretentiousness and snobbery? Well I just wanted to highlight post as evidence for my point.

I don’t give 2 dingoes farts about footy either, but unlike you I don’t think this is evidence of my intellectual superiority over the proles.

No, they’ve done this before. It would have been ‘decent’ if they’d won. And a miracle!

They didn’t have any problem giving your Sharks a good thrashing a week previously, despite epic whinging from Paul Gallen. Is that 45 years now without a title?

I’m glad you took the time out of your presumably busy day to enlighten us all with that wonderfully insightful post.

It was a brilliant turn around to the season and I couldn’t be prouder, but it is all for nought if they don’t pick up next season where they left off.

Disappointed but not really surprised. Still, to get there from where they were was a pretty decent effort.

No one is too sore over this, I see!

Bye bye Raiders, go the mighty Bunnies!

The surprising thing is that Souths still hold the record for winning the most premierships even though their last Grand Final win was in 1971. Despite the passage of 41 years since then – and things like the Winfield Cup, Optus Cup, Telstra Cup and Super League – no other team has been able to beat that record.

Well done Raiders for getting this far, 7 weeks ago there was talk of the spoon and the gallows were being prepared for the coach.
