I would like Canberrans assistance in tracking down a particular motor vehicle. The four occupants of this vehicle attacked my wife and young child in a road rage attack a few weeks ago on the Monaro Highway.
At approximately 10:30pm on a Saturday evening, my wife was travelling eastbound along Hindmarsh Drive when in her rear view mirror she saw a late model silver Holden Commodore SS approaching at extremely high speed. The vehicle passed her and then swerved quickly in front of her into the lane she was occupying in order to pass a car in the other lane almost causing her to run off the road. The silver Commodore then continued along Hindmarsh Drive at high speed, driving erratically and dangerously around other vehicles.
At the intersection of Hindmarsh Drive and the Monaro Highway, the Commodore was stopped at a red arrow waiting to turn right and southbound toward Tuggeranong. As my wife’s car drew alongside their vehicle, her only mistake was to glance across at the occupants of the vehicle. Upon doing this, two of the passengers wound down the windows and started abusing her, yelling out “what the f*** are you looking at b****” and making other sexually explicit threats toward her. My wife ignored their taunts and when the arrow turned green she turned right to head down the Monaro Highway toward Tuggeranong.
The Commodore and its occupants then proceeded to tailgate her with their high beam lights on. After a few kilometres, they passed her at high speed and pulled in front of her, forcing her car off the road. Upon coming to a stop the four occupants of the Commodore got out of the vehicle, with two of them armed with what appeared to be a small bat and a small crowbar, and began hitting my wife’s vehicle with these objects and their fists with considerable force. The verbal threats continued, telling her to get out of the car while trying to gain access through the doors which were thankfully locked.
One of the occupants then struck the rear quarter window with one of their weapons with such force that it shattered showering glass all over our 4 month old baby, who was in a baby capsule in the back seat. At this time another vehicle was approaching the scene and upon seeing this the occupants of the Commodore all returned to their vehicle and left at high speed.
My wife called the police to report the incident immediately. The police attended the scene and took details.
In following this matter up, we have unfortunately been advised by the police that the registered owner of the vehicle is no longer at the address listed on his registration and license. As a result, the police can do very little until they catch up with the car and driver.
As a result, I would like to see whether this community can help in identifying the car and driver. The car was a silver late model Holden Commodore SS with ACT registration ***-***. It had red P-Plates displayed in the top right hand corner of the rear window. The four occupants were all males and aged between approximately 17 to 19 years of age.
If by any remote chance anyone knows of this vehicle or where it is garaged, see this vehicle on Canberra’s roads, or know the owner and where he lives, could you please pass this information onto me. There is considerable damage to my wife’s vehicle plus the police are very keen to catch up with these youths considering the nature of their attack on my wife and 4 month old child.
I know that this is a long shot, but I do not want to see these youths get away with such an unprovoked attack on an innocent woman and infant and have it potentially happen to someone else.
UPDATE: The highest levels of ACT Policing are now following this up and gmckay424 should check his email and get in touch with them. We’ve decided to suppress the rego details until the bottom has been got to.
FURTHER UPDATE: This statement from ACT Policing:
A comprehensive search of ACT Policing indices has yielded nil results for the incident as described.
Police would urge the original complainant in this matter to contact ACT Policing Operations on 131-444.”

I was the one who originally asked the question on another RiotAct thread. I can’t help but think that the night I saw them (around 4 weeks ago) on Hindmarsh Drive was exactly the same night that this incident occured – it seems too much of a coincidence.
Unfortunately I did not head down Monaro Highway that night but I wish I had as had I seen them on the side of the road I would have stopped and rendered assistance. I feel pretty terrible about it actually! Let me tell you, if these gutless wonders ever try the same thing on me then all four will be eating through straws the rest of their lives.

Why stop at one?
Where’s Mully when we need him?
This is unacceptable.
Like the other members of our community, I’ve noted the number and I’m on the lookout.
My sympathy for your wife and child. I have 4 children, and I know how you must feel. Anyone who would place a newborn at risk deserves everything they get.

According to my trusty calculator, the kinetic energy of 115 grain 9mm hardball is roughly 1300 Joules. On the other hand the kinetic energy of a medium sized sedan travelling at “running over arseclown” velocity is around 170000 Joules.
Assessing the physics of the situation, I concur with the advice being offered. Given offered the choice between a 9mm and a Camry, take the Camry, line ‘em up with the steering wheel, and press the pedal to the metal. They’ll either scatter like autumn leaves, or get what they deserve.

What is unacceptable is the claim by the boys in blue that they can’t do anything about this because the guy has moved house. They have a number-plate, so they must have a name. Surely a bit of, you know, police investigation would go some way towards finding these people.
Of course, if they are found and sent to trial the ‘justice’ that is served would invariably be something along the lines of a good behaviour bond and an admonition to not do it again.
When I first arrived in Canberra a car load of young men in a WRX pulled up besides me at a set of lights on Wentworth Avenue and proceeded to lean out the window waving a hammer and shouting abuse because I had the audacity to look at them. I didn’t even bother reporting it because I knew nothing would be done.
(I don’t want this to come across as a cop-bashing exercise… I generally support the work of our police, but too many times I have been disappointed by the rusted wheels of justice not working to help victims of crime)

I’d still like to see the Police job number on this incident, please.
What suburbs do we think are the likely lairs of these thugs? Isabella Plains, Richardson, Wanniassa??? I’m going for a look over the weekend.
Any other places that people suggest the car might be found?
Don’t worry, I can look after myself and I won’t be out to confront them…..just find them.
Don’t expect too much from the AFP. I have written of my own experience as a victim of road rage here on RiotACT and the AFP response that there was no such offense.
I was even attacked by the resident police trolls for being some how to blame. Thankfully these guys draw the line at a woman and her young child being attacked.
It’s not that hard to find the culprit, what happens next is the real issue for our community.
A photo or two of the car type would help or URL to online pics
“Because these sort of people when they buy a car never transfer the rego into their own name. It makes it nigh on impossible unless the previous owner asked for and kept their details, or the cops see them driving and pull them over.”
@KeenGolfer. The seller of the car has a disposal slip that they submit to RegoACT, which transfers ownership of the vehicle regardless of whether the new owner does. If the seller fails to get the buyers details then they are an idiot, because not doing so leaves them liable for speeding fines, etc.

There is no offence, there is assault, property damage, drive with intent to menace, reckless/dangerous/furious driving, negligent driving…..
this is a sickening act, hopefully they will be caught sooner than later, unfortunately there are alot of people who don’t change the car rego details into their name but at some stage he will have to surely, I’m unsure how it works but can rego can flag this vehicle so he is unable to re register it once it expires with out providing correct details then that info being passed onto police
Well, if the cops aren’t going to do anything about it, there’s always vigilante justice.
I think that’s the best kind of justice.

Yes the Vigliance Committee did wonders with Jack the Ripper.
Not really a good idea, first problem; it’s illegal, second, the very real possibility of mistaken identity. Sorry doesn’t cut it when you’ve put a guy in a wheelchair or worse

Correct. There is no such offence as road rage.

Attacked? Who blamed you? Without wanting to go off topic, if you were confused as to why police didn’t proceed with your case, then you should’ve spoken to the case officer for clarification. If it had been explained to you, perhaps it would’ve become obvious as to why the case couldn’t go further. Reading between the lines based on the limited information you provided, the defence would’ve had a field day if that had ever gone to Court.
It’s not that hard to find the culprit, what happens next is the real issue for our community.
Finding who currently owns the car (back to the OP now) probably won’t be difficult. Identifying the offenders might be though, unfortunately.

You absolute hypocrite. You are one of the most strident laura norder posters on this site and now you advocate breaking the law?
They may have two sets of number plates perhaps? One for after dark and the other to blend in?
Why don’t you contact the buses to ask their drivers to keep a look out and also the taxis.
My thoughts are with your family.
This actually sounds like a car from a house on Galloway street Isabella plains across from the Isabella plains shops. But that may be a coincidence- old bomb commodores look alike and I never pay attention to the number plate – will now.
So terribly sorry to read about this, I’ve never had this happen to me personally but I can’t imagine what I’d do if it did, probably never go outside again, it’s certainly something you’ll remember for the rest of your life and would forever change the way you feel about driving. What’s happening to Canberra? When did it turn into Paramatta?
I fear the time is rapidly approaching where we all need to have a weapon in the car to ward off these subhumans before any real damage is done. Even if they cry to the police themselves there would be a lot of satisfaction in crippling one of them.
two words.

Just to clarify: a “late model” Commodore would actually be fairly new.
I will absolutely be keeping my eye out and spreading the word! absolutely disgusting, and coming from me that should mean something!
For their sake, I hope I spot them on the road and not parked somewhere inconspicuous…
No idea who the other 2 are, but I have been here for a while. As stated a few times, I was just wondering why a link to a page showing Marist boys was posted without any reason.
I’d like the police job number.
These idiots need to be found!!
