I would like Canberrans assistance in tracking down a particular motor vehicle. The four occupants of this vehicle attacked my wife and young child in a road rage attack a few weeks ago on the Monaro Highway.
At approximately 10:30pm on a Saturday evening, my wife was travelling eastbound along Hindmarsh Drive when in her rear view mirror she saw a late model silver Holden Commodore SS approaching at extremely high speed. The vehicle passed her and then swerved quickly in front of her into the lane she was occupying in order to pass a car in the other lane almost causing her to run off the road. The silver Commodore then continued along Hindmarsh Drive at high speed, driving erratically and dangerously around other vehicles.
At the intersection of Hindmarsh Drive and the Monaro Highway, the Commodore was stopped at a red arrow waiting to turn right and southbound toward Tuggeranong. As my wife’s car drew alongside their vehicle, her only mistake was to glance across at the occupants of the vehicle. Upon doing this, two of the passengers wound down the windows and started abusing her, yelling out “what the f*** are you looking at b****” and making other sexually explicit threats toward her. My wife ignored their taunts and when the arrow turned green she turned right to head down the Monaro Highway toward Tuggeranong.
The Commodore and its occupants then proceeded to tailgate her with their high beam lights on. After a few kilometres, they passed her at high speed and pulled in front of her, forcing her car off the road. Upon coming to a stop the four occupants of the Commodore got out of the vehicle, with two of them armed with what appeared to be a small bat and a small crowbar, and began hitting my wife’s vehicle with these objects and their fists with considerable force. The verbal threats continued, telling her to get out of the car while trying to gain access through the doors which were thankfully locked.
One of the occupants then struck the rear quarter window with one of their weapons with such force that it shattered showering glass all over our 4 month old baby, who was in a baby capsule in the back seat. At this time another vehicle was approaching the scene and upon seeing this the occupants of the Commodore all returned to their vehicle and left at high speed.
My wife called the police to report the incident immediately. The police attended the scene and took details.
In following this matter up, we have unfortunately been advised by the police that the registered owner of the vehicle is no longer at the address listed on his registration and license. As a result, the police can do very little until they catch up with the car and driver.
As a result, I would like to see whether this community can help in identifying the car and driver. The car was a silver late model Holden Commodore SS with ACT registration ***-***. It had red P-Plates displayed in the top right hand corner of the rear window. The four occupants were all males and aged between approximately 17 to 19 years of age.
If by any remote chance anyone knows of this vehicle or where it is garaged, see this vehicle on Canberra’s roads, or know the owner and where he lives, could you please pass this information onto me. There is considerable damage to my wife’s vehicle plus the police are very keen to catch up with these youths considering the nature of their attack on my wife and 4 month old child.
I know that this is a long shot, but I do not want to see these youths get away with such an unprovoked attack on an innocent woman and infant and have it potentially happen to someone else.
UPDATE: The highest levels of ACT Policing are now following this up and gmckay424 should check his email and get in touch with them. We’ve decided to suppress the rego details until the bottom has been got to.
FURTHER UPDATE: This statement from ACT Policing:
A comprehensive search of ACT Policing indices has yielded nil results for the incident as described.
Police would urge the original complainant in this matter to contact ACT Policing Operations on 131-444.”
I see a Silver SS Commodore around Tuggeranong with P-Platers regularly and have a fair idea of the suburbs they visit and reside.
However, I believe the AFP will catch up with the ‘known offender’ over the next week.
Have faith, if its the same group, they drive around Tuggeranong on a regular basis and will be apprehended swiftly.
Participate in Rush Hour or visit Lanyon/Maccas carpark on a Friday night – Saturday am.
Oh, one other thing, request the AFP drop into the Tuggeranong College carpark every now and then.
A group who attend school there carry baseball bats and knives in a vehicle threatening other kids from time to time.
Not Erindale College, I am referring to Tuggeranong College.
If it is the same group/boy in the silver commodore, the AFP should site the vehicle quickly during or after school.
Okay – we’ve had a few requests now for the Police Job Number………………………can I request again that we get it?
If you haven’t got one………………………………..let us know and also tell us why?
Patience Frots, not everyone hits the site every 30 seconds.
Strange I know.

What..???? And here I was thinking…………………………
No problems – but hopefully we’ll get one.
These guys regularly do burnouts around the roundabout at Wheeler/Forlonge in Wanniassa. I’ll suggest they live close by to this area since its a regular occurence.
Might I add that the dragstrip roundabout at Wheeler/Forlonge is one of the worst place for burnouts in the ACT. I’ve assisted the police with supplying video footage and number plates of multiple offenders that have been caught over the years, but as soon as one group of idiots is stopped, another comes in their place. The sooner the authorities rip up this intersection and replace it with traffic calming design, the better. I’m not holding my breath though.

I too don’t know who the two other posters are. I simply found it amusing that in light of the private vs public thread (I’d mentioned) that two posters had (for whatever reason) suggested private school students (two public schools were also mentioned, so there you go). It was a bit lame I know (as acknowledged with the ‘at the risk of stirring the pot’ statement) but the comments were timed too close to the other thread, and my brain was still in ‘school’ mode so they stood out. In reality, I have no problem with either school as I no nothing about them – except that they matched the ‘private schools breed fine upstanding citizens’ comments from the other thread. There, I think i’ve joined all the dots for you now.
Re: 6matt9
Being from a public background yourself, I thought you may have noticed and embraced the sarcasm – my bad. Phew, more confusion righted! Now for a bex and a good lie down….
I too went to a public primary school, high school and college, plus ACT TAFE (as it was in the day) and also the lowly UC (cf. ANU). So some might say that school-wise, i’m as basically educated as it gets. My post was in fact, thinly-veiled sarcasm. Sarcasm is known as the lowest form of wit, and with my public school upbringing that’s all I have sorry.
Lastly, fingers crossed these losers get caught through RA word of mouth. Along with its other benefits, that could certainly make RA a useful tool to assist in the catching of criminals (albeit, possibly only the stupid ones)!
dont know if anyone has mentioned it, but id be searching the street commodores forums, canberra cruises forums, performance forums for pics of this car. these egotists will likely have pics online of their car doing stupid things, and no doubt bragged about this incident..
i witnessed a similar attack 4 weeks ago, a p plater in a blue ss commodore on isabella drive, the attacker was punching the driver of an old red corolla because he was ‘cut off’ on a roundabout. >>> truth is the commodore tried to strait line the roundabout and didnt give way to a car turning. luckily, myself and a couple of other cars took pictures and the attacker was caught. hope these guys get caught also..
I am a little surprised that there has been nothing about this in the media – I would have thought a chilling encounter like this would be a lead item.
I am also a little concerned that people can post the rego number of a car on a forum like this which then elicits calls for vigilante action…

Like planking? Can hardly wait for Darwinism to do its bit then.
My money’s on them still being at the last known address, especially if it’s where family or friends live. It’s easy enough to say they’ve moved on.
And when they catch them (or when they eliminate themselves from the gene pool all together) I know exactly who’ll be to blame, “the police” of course!
Well
“Reading between the lines based on the limited information you provided, the defence would’ve had a field day if that had ever gone to Court.”
This is AFP speak for we don’t intend to do anything on these incidents.
So they will continue to occur.

There is a difference between vigilant action and vigilante action, as for the number plate I believe that it is in the public interest to know who to look out for when it comes to their own safety and security. I assume that you would have had an issue with Rate the Plate when it was available.
Now that it has gotten to 77 or so responses, the Canberra times are sure to steal this story.

If it came fron an official source, say the AFP, I would agree 100%. What concerns me is that someone could concoct such a story (I am in no way implying that this is the case here) as a method of revenge against someone.

+1 Always a chance.
As much as this article made my blood boil, it is simply an article written by an anonymous person. Don’t get me wrong, if this is true I hope these idiots get fisted by bubba. But I would prefer to see something from AFP, etc.

Yes, I tend to agree with you CSRI. Which is why of course we have been asking for the AFP Report Number at least. You are quite right, at the moment we have a story – nothing more. That is not to say it didn’t happen (and I am saddened if it did for the whole family) but this thread has gained quite a momentum over the past 24 hours – based on nothing more than a story. And in that ‘story’ we have a car registration.
So, and with due respect the original post and his family, let’s get the Police Report details at least before we call out the hounds!
I just re ran a google search for the rego, and found no new info, except that this RA thread has been brought to the attention of at least two car forums (fora for the anal amongst us).
Any minute now I am expecting a FOTW style rant saying how we don’t know ’cause we weren’t there and bazza is a top bloke and only behaved that way cause…..

I think you’ve misread and therefore misquoted in a MASSIVE way from the other thread; I don’t see anyone saying that “private schools breed fine upstanding citizens” (or anything equating that statement). I, and many others, simply pointed out the fact that public schools have no choice but to take those antisocial kids, some excluded from private schools; others who are antisocial due to the homes and backgrounds they come from. A greater number of these kids in the Public sector by no means equates to more upstanding members of society in the Private sector. But, by all means, feel free to point out exactly which comments match your quote…

I think the Police have little interest in these types of incidents unfortunately. I was rammed off the road along Drakeford Drive (see Ram Rage RA article) a year ago, and although there was a Police pursuit just after the incident, following another witness who reported the plates of the same offending vehicle, nothing ever eventuated. I thought the same at the time… Is this not a serious enough crime to publicise? Apparently not. I can probably dig out the statement of fact and get the Police report number if you dont believe me! For the others in doubt, given that this car has previously been mentioned on another thread for similar offences by a different blogger, I would say the chances that either of the 2 stories are “made up”, is slim.
This made me feel ill. I’ve posted the story to my fb page to help spread the word.

Nah, not from those two forums at least. They’re both Japanese car owner forums, the natural enemy of the Commodore. If anything, they’ll gleefully help bring these bogans to justice. Import car owners get enough heat from the police as it is just for the cars they drive so I’m sure they’d love to take a few of the wankers off the road to reduce the “hoon” boogeyman that overshadows them…

Actually you’ll find if you check out forums such as Canberra Cruises you’ll find that members have posted about this incident and are just as appalled as everyone here.
We are a good group of friends that try to promote safe motorsport events and don’t need to be dragged in to a matter such as this!
I’m really sorry to hear what happened to the OPs family and I hope these people are brought to justice.
How does anyone propose these crooks can be caught? Since they obviously know they can outrun police as any police chase at highspeed will be called off at risk to the community. They know they can get away, and they will exploit it again and again.
Any ideas for the brass from the bright RA folk?
Pommy bastard said :
Don’t worry, I’m sure there’d be a massive police effort to find anyone who beat up the thugs in the OP.

From the sounds of things these guys live in my neck of the woods. Rest assured OP that if I see this vehicle I WILL be following it.

Okay, champ. Ignore the points I made and make a childish anti-police comment, ignoring the obvious fact that police put people before court every day for assault. If you’re going to behave like an obnoxious, mouth-breathing cretin in response to a reasonable comment (in which I was trying to be constructive), then do me a favour and don’t bother replying at all.
This is a post that was made on the 5th April on another thread.
“Last Saturday night I was passed on Hindmarsh Drive by a silver Holden Commodore SS (ACT registration ***-***) travelling at what I estimated to be around 170-180km/h in an 80km/h zone. There were 4 youths in the car and it was displaying red P-plates.”
I hope ACTPOL are able to catch theses $%#@ before someone gets hurt. Its only a matter of time isnt it.

Statement of facts? So they did catch someone?
Here is a Qoute from another thread on RiotACT
“Are there laws in the ACT that prevent a P-plater driving anything more than a 6 cylinder vehicle? Last Saturday night I was passed on Hindmarsh Drive by a silver Holden Commodore SS (ACT registration ***-***) travelling at what I estimated to be around 170-180km/h in an 80km/h zone. There were 4 youths in the car and it was displaying red P-plates”
I hope ACTPOL catch these %$&# before someone gets hurt.
