It’s not been announced anywhere we’ve seen, but a keen eyed reader has directed us to Notifiable Instrument NI2011-526 which makes Robert Neil the ACT’s Environment Commissioner until 29 February 2012.

Best of luck to him.

Announcement made via the Office of the Commissioner for Environment and Sustainability:

Does anyone know why such an important position has a tenure of less than one year?

My apologies for making a second comment so soon but to answer Frots question…. Mr Neil used to hold the statutory role of the Environment Protection Authority (EPA) in the Environment and Sustainable Development Directorate (ESDD). He is quite well known to those in the environmental and construction industries.

Yes that’s correct Mr Neil is the new Commissioner as of the 6th of September. Not that anyone in the department where he came from has been officially told yet, 6 days after the fact.

Frots he has been a high ranking ACT Public servant for a while – but not seen him as a spokesperson so not known outside the service.

Many thanks – haven’t heard of him before.
