Canberra CBD have put out a media release with all the details.

Tickets are now on sale for the national capital’s first outdoor roller skate rink, in Garema Place for Roller Skate in the City.

Roller Skate in the City, an initiative by Canberra CBD Ltd, provides all ages with the opportunity to roller skate in the middle of the city, beginning on Friday 6 January.

Following the popularity of Skate in the City (the winter ice skating rink in Garema Place), with more than 19,000 people from across the country putting on skates, Canberrans and visitors are being encouraged to take part and enjoy this outdoor summer activity in the city.

Roller Skate in the City will also feature retro movie nights, including Xanadu, Roller Derby demonstrations and feature skate displays which will also be on show as part of the four-week summer initiative.

Locally-based companies, Vida Sparkling Vitamin Water and Chameleon Ice Creamery, will also be present on rink to refresh and rehydrate the summer roller skaters.

Tickets are available online or at the rink, but they advise booking ahead to avoid disappointment.

It will run to 6 February 2012.

I think a faux beach would be a bit of fun…

Up to $20 for a ticket? WTF? I might just put on my rollerblades and skate around other parts of Garema Place for free!!

Apparently it’s up to $20.50 per ticket for roller derby demo night. You can go and see real roller derby for less than that.

It’s basically window dressing. A photo op for pollies that won’t change the grimy underlying reality of the place.

perhaps that new childrens’ show on ten could do a special on rollerblades. But no hoses or capsicum spray or the like!

You know what the hardest part of roller-blading is? Telling your parents you’re gay.

Any chance this wil stop them running around all over the rest of the city centre?

I’m assuming rollerblades are the social equivalent of geared bikes nowdays?
