Scam phone calls

Received a scam phone call this afternoon, (normally they call of an evening) saying that the business I supposedly own is doing poorly in the Google rankings and it will cost me $150 to get my supposed business to the top of the Google search. Funny thing is I don’t own a business. Guess they’re just after a few fools to fall for their scam.

She was rather thick, I told her I live in Thailand and the business wasn’t mine and she believed me lol.

You should tell them that your business is a private detective agency which tracks down spammers, hackers and the like, then for a hefty fee, breaks their legs, arms and telephones. Yes, string them along and waste heir time. Even go as far as making a purchase and just give them three quarters of a fake credit card number before hanging up. Then leave your phone off the hook.
Or, say you are busy and tell them you’re handingthem to someone who can speak with them.Hand the phone to your kids, prefferably the youngest one. The one that’s still learning to talk.

It’s probably not a scam… although there are many people who would disagree, because they’ve been stung by their questionable T&C.

I think they’re Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) company.
What they do for you is to put you in the top internet search result for your locale.
E.g. a consumer googles flower, and your shop shows up at the top of the list. As a result you get more patronage.

And the general feedback that I’ve heard is that it doesn’t quite work.

I tend to string them along for while, tell them some strange things, and generally waste their time.

We’ve had a few of the old ‘we’re from Microsoft, you have viruses, etc’ calls recently, and I like to ask them all sorts of strange things.
