Scotty and Nige the third most liked thing in Canberra?

Taking internet polls too seriously is one of the more foolish things one can do.

That hasn’t stopped Joy Burch from announcing the top ten and top 100 entries from the “Like Canberra” voting process.

People nominated almost 14,000 reasons why they like living in the ACT. These ‘likes’ were sorted into a number of categories, and earlier this year the community was asked to vote on their most special things about Canberra.

“After two months of polling, where almost 135,000 votes were received, we have finally arrived at our ‘Top100’. The list includes an amazing variety of people’s favourite places, activities and experiences – a real indication that there is so much to do and see in our city.”

Canberra’s ‘Top Ten’ favourite things, in order from 1 to ten are:
1. Floriade/Night Fest
2. Fantastic views of the mountains
3. Scotty and Nige from 104.7
4. Skyfire
5. Summernats
6. Australian War Memorial
7. Questacon
8. National Zoo and Aquarium
9. Old Bus Depot Markets
10. Brodburger

Your thoughts dear readers?

When was Charnwood removed?

… so they could substitute “Engaged and educated populace with progressive views and a truly open attitude to diversity”. Working class Charny just isn’t PC enough.

Weren’t ‘we’ voting on the previous list of top 100 things? This list, as given above does not contain Charnwood at all. Yet it was on the list we were asked to vote on, as Ben_Dover’s comment (#21) makes clear.

When was Charnwood removed?

Or have I got this totally wrong, and is this a new list of all possible attractions?

I really don’t understand. Am I being thick? I understand the Senate, but not this.

An FOI request would bring up some interesting information about the process I’m sure.

I’m going to use this to explain how Brodburger got up there.

Or possibly that the kind of patron that would call upon Brodburger do not read The RiotACT.

Curious about how “awesome CSS/PSS scheme” didn’t get a guernsey.

Scotty and Nige V PSS?

I know which way I’d vote.

When I look at these results I tell myself that there are a mischievous number of Canberrans who like to take the piss, but then deep down I think I know the truth.

Sorry to see the merry-go-round didn’t make it.

LOL I have a cousin in Adelaide who totally agrees with the “tap water is better than bottled spring water” vote, she gets me to send bottles of cbr water to her……….. lol

Am I the only one here to suspect Scotty and Nige (or their mates) of saturation polling?

Oi! Our shit doesn’t stink…

Brodburger? Two dopes from a terrible radio station? Summernats?

Either Canberra is Bogan Central or a disproportionate amount of bogans like voting in online polls. I hope it’s the latter.

I just hope the govt sees how many things like ‘fantastic views of the mountains’, ‘being surrounded by green space’, ‘fresh air’, ‘nature parks and reserves on your doorstep’, ‘calm and peaceful suburbs’, there are in the top 100, and decides to stop messing this wonderful town up with faux, cultural cringe-like vibrancy.

In the unlikely event we ever meet, could you please show me your beige?

There’s nothing beige about Canberra’s vistas, Poetix.

How on earth did we all forget to include Canberra’s incredible sunsets?

This must be ironic, considering the increased traffic risks associated with driving at sunset.

Only people who live in Belco have to drive into the sunset …

After 135k votes, we are pretty happy that Choku bai Jo made this list, its great to know people like us and can be bothered voting for us. cheers to all those who did =)

add fake laugh here

“Engaged and educated populace with progressive views and a truly open attitude to diversity”

They missed out on the bit about how Canberrans always think outside the box and ensure equity of outcomes through process compliance and comprehensive engagement with all relevant stakeholders. Such rubbish.

The Wig & Pen on the other hand is definitely on my list of the top 100 things in this town.

How on earth am I agreeing with Masquara ?

“The lakes” should have had in parenthesis: except when it floods, someone dies in them, algae shuts them, sewage from Queanbo flows into them, residents from Yarralumla/Kingston complain and ruin them for everyone, sailing!

“No traffic or traffic jams”

Well, all things are relative, but that’s a reach.

Disappointed to see none of Canberra’s fine, entirely locally owned and operated coffee shops made it onto the Top 100, despite chains like Dendy, Hyatt and Koko Black making it on.

Masquara said :

Head up to the Central Coast, ours are not unique or special. Nice, but they’re not a “Canberra’ specific thing.

Thank Christ Andrew Barr did not make the grade (despite his Voto-Matic 2000 being tasked with boosting his numbers).

How on earth did we all forget to include Canberra’s incredible sunsets?

Much of it is irony. Otherwise how on earth would the intense inconvenience, not to mention traffic risk, of “fog on the lake” have gotten in?

Meanwhile at the Kremlin the dynamic duo have been expunged from history:

good to see choku bai jo got a guensey… and the wig.

but where’s the ‘no need to use indicators’? and mully being gone..?

I think this list tells us a lot about the demographic that votes on this kind of lists.

Although I am glad to see the National Zoo and Aquarium in there.

I took my kids to the national zoo and aquarium a few years ago and it was a complete run down disgusting poo hole.

I remember being taken there in the mid-nineties as a youngster. At that time the ‘Zoo’ part of the Zoo and Aquarium consisted of an emu that chased people around the park, scaring the crap out of me and some kangaroos that presumably wandered in off the ridge.

muscledude_oz3:49 pm 15 Mar 13

Scotty and Nige are radio announcers? I thought they were just actors doing ads for a local car dealer.

Comic_and_Gamer_Nerd3:28 pm 15 Mar 13

Scotty and Nige are on the work radio daily. It’s like they read through 4chan archives and repeat 4 year old Internet memes. Honestly, who wants to be that guy?

Brodburger is pretty good, do t get me wrong, it’s just not THAT good. I went once and it no where near lives up to the hype.

Haha what a joke sums up the absolute stupidity of doing things like this.

Closeness to Sydney? lol.

And how about the food ones, Dickson Noodle house Laksa, High tea at the Hyatt, Weekend breakfast at Tilley’s?

Engaged and Educated populace with progressive views and a truly open attitude to diversity?

Bahahahahaha.

How did Charney get on? I voted for it dozens of times.

I am speechless. Unlike Scotty and Nige.

Pretty great list and fairly encompassing of this great little city.

But Poachers’ Pantry?? Pretty sure that is well in NSW…

True. I suppose you have to look at the list as a list of things that people like about ~living in Canberra~, rather than a list of things ~about~ Canberra. And one thing that’s good about living in Canberra is that you have quick and easy access to Poachers’ Pantry, even if it is a few minutes over the border.

Who TF are Scotty and Nige?

i’d be more worried about Brod-bloody-burger and Summernats. At least Scotty and Nige are reasonably canberran, and entertaining. And they’re not that awful woman from 106.

What is un-Canberran about Brodburger and Summernats?

You can’t like Summernats if you post on RiotACT, it’s full of bogans. This is where the social elite hang out who are better than everyone else.

Was “Roadworks” an option? We’re obviously mad for them.

Pick the odd one out! Everything else is a place or an event – and then Scotty and Nige?

At least I learned something today – I would have guessed Scotty and Nige hadn’t been on the radio in years…

Really? You don’t see the hate threads on here every time 104.7 wins the ratings? It as regular on RiotACT as Canberra heading to the coast on a long weekend 😉

There was a huge people section that Scotty and Nige were in, so odd one out in the way tey got votes I’d say.

As for site, I clicked on something I didn’t like and was able to undo my vote.

These things are a bit of fun so well done to all who were voted into te Top 100 I say 🙂

Or more likely the result of very poor website design (covered in an earlier ra thread).

I clicked on something out of puzzling curiosity as to why anyone would nominate it and discovered i had ‘liked’ it and could not ‘unlike’ it. i imagine many people went ‘who the hell are scotty and nige?’ clicked on their name and discovered they had voted for them.

I had this exact problem, and so have many other people I’ve spoken to.

I’m going to use this to explain how Brodburger got up there.

I’m glad you pointed that out because for a moment i thought WTF!

Floriade would be every young Berra hipster’s dream wouldn’t it?

I see there is ‘each suburb has it own local shop’ on the list….

Hmmmm

I don’t have a local shops in my suburb

I’m also confused by the ‘no traffic or traffic jams’ line too

However my favourite would have to be ‘footy games at BRUCE stadium’ hehehehe. Proof no one calls it Canberra Stadium.
