The Greens are sending their best wishes to their colleague and Speaker of the Legislative Assembly Shane Rattenbury has he sets off for a marathon from the Mount Everest Base Camp:

Mr Rattenbury will start the 42km run from Mount Everest Base Camp at midnight this evening – Canberra time (7am, 29th of May, Nepalese time).

“Shane is a very capable Speaker and member for Molonglo, and I’m sure that these attributes will be of little use running 42km at 5000m altitude,” Ms Hunter said.

“While many wouldn’t think to run 42km in the snow on your holiday, but I know Shane loves a challenge.

“But all of this is for charity, so I take my hat off to The Speaker and on behalf of the Greens team wish him a good race.

He’s raising money for Karinya House.

This news did, at the least, explain why we were getting page views out of Nepal an hour or so ago.

Good luck Shane! We’ll be fascinated to learn if this is more or less punishing than a Hawaii Ironman.

The headline had me hoping he was knitting something funny. Sigh.
