Simon’s Goobledegook to simplify planning

By 20 April 2005 5

I’m a bit of a thickey I’ll grant you. IT systems or government affairs may hold few terrors for me, but when I see Simon Corbell holding forth about planning issues I know it will be beyond my humble intellect.

But he has excelled himself in a new media release, and even better he’s doing it while promising to simplfy things.

Here’s the first paragraph for a lesson in inpenetrability.

Planning Minister Simon Corbell said the ACT Government has begun work on a simplified, unified planning document for Canberra’s central area and has also acted to remove in most cases the need for preliminary assessments within the City.

This could be a good thing, but how would any of us know?

Ummm… What?

I think I must have failed in my career as a public servant as I have no idea what he’s on about…

Actually I do know what it means. We will have a simple plan for Civic with preliminary assessments no longer needed in most cases.

Preliminary asessements for what? To be included in the simple plan? To be excluded from the simple plan?

Ear ring boy couldn’t have written this, he’d have trouble reading it.

Saw Ear ring boy again on the news last night muttering about pay parking at hospitals.

I particularly liked his rationale for having pay parking, to wit, ‘that the pay parking at Canberra hospitals will raise revenue for more parking at hospitals and is the lowest in all of Australia’.

So, by his thinking, we’re getting it easy by having to now pay.
