Well this looks like fun:

The Small Brewers Beer Festival is about showcasing some of the unique and exquisite beers made by the smaller breweries and beer companies from around Australia.

Participation to this festival is strictly limited to small breweries as on-going battle to level the playing field against the big breweries.

Over 55 different beers and ciders will be available for tasting on the day.

Set in the tranquil beauty of the Australia National Botanical Gardens this festival will have beers never before seen in Canberra. Also included will be some Australian ciders and a few local cold-climate wineries.

Entertainment and food will be available all day long.

Sounds very familiar to the Brindabella Beer Festival that was planned to happen at Scope late last year. Regardless, I’ll be making my way there for some tasty treats.

Excellent! It’s just a leisurely bike ride on the bike-paths away for certain people. Much better than Stromlo.

I was going to exhibit some of my beers there, but I’m six foot two tall.

For entry into the event and 10 sample tokens..

I can’t see how that is expensive…

Beer costs money Hank.

You organise the free beer festival and we’ll all be sure to attend.

Maybe if you were like “I love beer, I wish I could afford to go”
not “I hate fun and don’t have money”

That truly would be magical, could you imagine… I would lose my shoes and dignity in the first 20 minutes

My understanding is that it’s the same festival, moved and renamed.

Tickets booked and paid for :) Now to tell the wife I’m going…

What, doesn’t she like beer? What a strange lady…

Sadly, after nearly 20 years together, I am still yet to convince her of the liquid gorgeousness that is the amber (pale straw to opaque black) nectar.

Still, more beer for me :)

How big is a sample… like a taster size (say a 30ml shot) or more of a half pint size?

If you’re getting 10 half pints included in the entry that seems reasonable. If it’s 10 shots of beer, less reasonable.

LSWCHP will be there! Ooops…LSWCHP realises he’s started to refer to himself in the third person…

My first thought was that quibbling over the included beers was petty … but this is a really good point. If I fatted up my $$ and got 10 shotties, I’d be, well, shirty. And it’s not beyond the realm of possibilities.

Anyone got any actual knowledge?

I overheard a rumour at the homebrew shop that Wig & Pen may be pulling out. No idea why. Anyone know about this?

Tickets for non-drinking attendees, $20. Option to appear on booking website shortly.

(I should have added that this was info I received from Mick @ Stricklands this afternoon in reply to an email query.)

$20 to get in, to not drink, and simply talk to brewers seems a bit rich. Unless they intend to have talks, etc., I couldn’t see too many folk forking that out.

That rumour has proven to be true. No further information.

ANBG has set a capacity, so it’s an opportunity cost problem for the organisers.

Latest info is tickets will sell out soon by the way.
