For something a little different here’s the latest musical offering involving the irrepressible Leon Twardy:

The two-track (30 minute) improvisational album is a departure from the drum machine, nervous lyrics, and thousand yard gazing which characterises the solo work of Warwick JW Smith. The addition of Leon Flint Twardy’s drums to Smith’s psychedelic guitar creates an intense, live dynamic.

The duo have played music together in various incarnations for almost a decade. Mostly they’ve featured in past Canberra-based noise and art-rock projects such as Mankilled, The Cherry Marines, the original Horse Macgyver band (see Manshandies), and The Important Trucks.

The Orbits duo turned in powerful performances at SoundSummit and the ANU Art School Ball before Smith relocated to Melbourne. He returned to his musical spirit home Canberra to record with Twardy in the back-burbs at Hellosquare headquarters (thanks Shoeb). The sessions were recorded and mixed by Twardy himself and Steven Smith of Scul Hazzards added a final polish to the swirling jams.
