So what is going on with UC and CIT?

The Greens’ Meredith Hunter is asking pesky questions about just what the Government is up to with its semi shelved plans to merge the University of Canberra and the Canberra Institute of Technology:

The ACT Greens will today move a motion calling for the ACT Government to bring some much needed clarity to the University of Canberra (UC) and Canberra Institute of Technology (CIT) situation.

“The Government, and Education Minister Chris Bourke, have had ample opportunity to respond to the enquires and concerns the Greens and other stakeholders have raised since January,” Greens Education spokesperson, Meredith Hunter MLA, said today.

“There are staff and students who need to know what the plans are, and the Assembly needs to see details in order to properly scrutinise any new institutions.

“We have received a briefing from the Minister’s office however, it was very disappointing to be presented with only the media release from December last year and nothing else.

“The staff, teachers and current and prospective students of both institutions deserve more concrete information than a press release.

“The UC announced that they are to establish an entirely new third institution: the ACT Government on the other hand, says “that the intention has never been to create a third tertiary education institution.”

“The UC is also discussing start dates and locations, but the ACT Government cannot confirm or deny either.

“This kind of mixed messaging, along with a lack of detail or concrete proposals, leaves students and teachers in limbo.
