Stamps! Stamps for the Centenary!

The nation is celebrating 100 years since the birth of the national capital, Canberra, and Australia Post is marking this historic occasion with the release of one domestic base-rate (60c) stamp and one international-rate ($2.35) stamp.

Australia’s Parliament House and the National Portrait Gallery are featured on the stamps with the original architectural plan for the city by Walter Burley Griffin and Marion Mahony Griffin incorporated into the stamp designs.

Australia Post Philatelic Manager, Michael Zsolt said: “This commemorative stamp issue enables all Australians to reflect on the importance of the city of Canberra in the development of our nation.”

“The stamps were designed by Melbourne-based Mary Callahan Design.”

Good to see there’s obviously no decent designers in Canberra.

OMG! Just what I’ve always wanted to celebrate the hundredth birthday of my hometown, a stamp!

Out of interest, how many RA denizens are Canberra born and how many moved here? And what do the people who lived elsewhere think of the city in comparison with their other towns or cities?
