State/Territory Mutual Recognition fails again

Today I received my renewal notice for my NSW Recreational Fishing License which has risen 17% to $35.00 for 12 months. They must be using the same rating formula as ACT Revenue.

An equivalent license in the ACT does not exist (yet) but my favourite fishing spot is in NSW and ACT residents are not exempted from holding a NSW license if they want to fish in NSW.

There are fee concessions for “pension card holders” but only if they reside in NSW. This is clearly ridiculous and discriminatory.

I was so motivated by this discrimination that I phoned the NSW Department of Primary Industries and asked them could I cast a line on the license free ACT side of the Murrimbidgee River and catch a fish on the NSW side (where that river is the common border) in which case, would I require a NSW fishing license.

Waiting, waiting…….

It’s way past time that these pensioner concession anomalies between States and Territories were harmonised.
