The National Capital Authority is warning that they’re having a go at building a bridge over Parkes Way at the Russell Roundabout on Saturday and suggest finding another route:

The main temporary traffic diversions and arrangements will include:

— Traffic from the city-side to the airport will be diverted from the Anzac Parade / Parkes Way roundabout via Anzac Parade, Constitution Avenue and Russell Drive, before being reconnected to Morshead Drive.
— Traffic from the airport-side to the city will be diverted from the Morshead Drive / Russell Drive roundabout via Russell Drive, Constitution Avenue and Anzac Parade before being reconnected to Parkes Way.
— Parkes Way north-side, to the airport, will be fully closed, including the north-side of Kings Avenue on the Russell side.
— At the Russell roundabout, Kings Avenue will only have one left lane in, from Morshead Drive, and one left lane out to Parkes Way operating.

The changes apply from 6.30am to 8.00pm on Saturday 4 September.

UPDATE: No bridge collapse this week. The NCA now reports that they’ve deferred the concrete pour on the Russell Roundabout due to forecast bad weather.

They must be worried that if it rains the concrete will get wet. We all know it was wet concrete that caused the problem at the Barton Hwy bridge. The way I read it wouldn’t have collapsed if the concrete was dry. Wait a minute…..

they’ve deferred the concrete pour on the Russell Roundabout due to forecast bad weather.

The forecast apparently called for heavy showers of bridgework. Better pack an umbrella.

Seems like a wide buffer considering gravity would dictate the bridge will collapse into the construction site…..are they worried this one will explode?

I reckon they should do a Kate Carnell and invite all Canberrans to the collapse. Should be a doozy.

Have they scheduled a time for the collapse?
