Hi all… being new to the ACT I am keen to find out if there is a Christmas lights competition on here?
Where we moved from one of the radio stations and Energex ran a comp each year and we loved taking the kids out to the ‘awesome’ streets to check out the lights. Is there something similar here? If not, are there any suburbs or local streets who light up with Christmas lights each year that are worth going to see?
We had some pretty amazing streets where the local Scout groups even set up sausage sizzle stands so you could grab a bite to eat while you did some browsing!
slavin place off knoke avenue in gordon usually has some pretty good ones but I dont think they are up yet
Youll find in a week or two, all the radio stations will be advertising their lists. I think from memory there is also a list printed in the local paper(s).
Also, I think ActewAGL have something going on with chrissy lights too. All the chrissy lights and people driving around to see them, make up for the 1hr we turned the lights off a few months back for ‘Earth Hour’.
Oh goodie, I’ll know which streets to avoid. Love is over.
Watch the ABC Canberra site, they usually put up a list of the best streets.
so does riotact from memory last year with little pinpoints on maps….
The small suburb of OXLEY in southern Tuggeranong (east of the Town Centre) is usually worth a nightime visit in the lead up to Christmas.
There’s a fantastic one in Ngunnawal. Near the Gungahlin Lakes club. You can get out and walk around the guy’s porch and each window is a different christmas theme and there’s heaps of stuff to look at. If you get there on the right night, there is also Santa and some Elves wandering around!
It’s on Amagula Ave in Ngunnawal. Definitely worth fighting the traffic for!
Bogan viewing used to mean (in a mispronounced sort of way) standing near the Bruce Stadium or New Parliament House and being amazed by the number of moths in the summer months. Now a new audience has come up to see something unrelated yet linguistically similar.
Macumba place in Kaleen is worth a look.
Bissenbgerger Crescent in Kambah is worth a visit.

Bissenberger is off Mannheim Street and there are some good lights there too.
There is not much out there this year. Thanks to Glenn Stevens and the hopeless Labour governments nobody can afford to have christmas lights. Power has gone up double and Stevens has dragged every last cent out of the economy.
If I left anyone else out, Thanks for being the christmas grinch. you know who you are.
